Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, David Cerrone! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Smith! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cerrone misses with a body kick. Cerrone tries to land a front kick but Smith steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Smith ducks right into an uppercut from Cerrone. Smith uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Cerrone. Smith throws a counter combo. Smith misses with a kick to the body.
Cerrone scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Smith throws a one two combo.
It looks like David Cerrone has been cut. Smith tries a head kick but it misses.
As Smith looks to move away, Cerrone throws a big counter combo but Smith just gets out of the way. Cerrone scoring well with a low kick there.
Smith has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Smith misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Smith has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Smith there as he acknowledges the shot. This has been an exciting period of action! Smith shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Cerrone eats them both and turns towards Smith to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Both fighters circling a little - Cerrone finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. Cerrone checks a low kick from Smith. Cerrone throws a hook but Smith blocks it. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Smith throws a head kick but Cerrone moves out of range.
Smith closes the distance and lands a one-two. Cerrone chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Smith is looking to score with low kicks. Smith scores with a nice body kick.
Smith ducks under a wild hook from Cerrone.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cerrone looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Smith fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Smith will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Cerrone connects with a leg kick. Smith looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Smith swings and misses with a shot to the body enabling Cerrone to counter with a crisp jab. Cerrone connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Smith feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Cerrones jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Cerrone cracks Smith with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Cerrone scores with a shot to the body.
A telegraphed right hand from Cerrone misses the target. Smith throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Cerrone finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body. Smith looks winded! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cerrone lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Smith is rocked! Cerrone lunges in with a left hook that violently twists Smith head around and knocks him out cold! Cerrone hops onto the cage and yells out at the top of his lungs - Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaah! They're showing the replay on the big screens now; that was nasty! I hope one of the photographers got a good shot of it.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). David Cerrone! A relieved looking David Cerrone thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
