Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cicero Dos Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Tai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Cicero Dos Santos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Tai!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Bruno Lombardi and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tai tries to clinch but Dos Santos moves away

and Dos Santos counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Tai tries to roll over but Dos Santos keeps him under control.
Dos Santos moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Tai.
Tai can't do much from the bottom here.
Dos Santos gets to mount! Tai was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Tai manages to regain half guard. Good work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tai moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Tai trying to keep a closed guard but Dos Santos is proving a slippery customer.

Tai wants to get back to his feet but Dos Santos is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Dos Santos postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Tai is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Tai bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Dos Santos's guard.

Dos Santos is pulling down on Tai's head. It's preventing any offense from Tai, at least for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tai got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dos Santos has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tai has managed to get both his arms back between Dos Santos's legs - danger averted.

Tai wants to control from the top but Dos Santos keeps moving.
Tai trying to move into half guard but instead Dos Santos has managed to sweep!

Tai manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Dos Santos manages to get himself to full guard.

Tai wants to pass the guard but Dos Santos is keeping the position.

Tai passes Dos Santos's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Dos Santos looking for submissions off his back.
Tai is just content to waste time from the top position. Dos Santos takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Tai is fighting to break Dos Santos's control of his arms but Dos Santos is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Dos Santos can't keep his opponent in guard - Tai advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Tai is working for a kimura but Dos Santos is defending it quite comfortably.

Dos Santos keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Dos Santos has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Tai looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Tai seems to be working for a kimura but Dos Santos defends the submission attempt.

A close round but John Tai will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Tai shoots in but no luck this time.
Dos Santos leaves Tai with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Tai misses with a right hand

and Dos Santos counters with a takedown into side control.
Tai wants to get back to his feet but Dos Santos is dominant here and he's now got Tai's back!
Dos Santos punches Tai on the ear.
Tai wants to escape the position.
Dos Santos is not going to allow Tai to sit and survive in this position.
You can see the frustration on Tai's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Tai is still trying to improve position.
Cicero Dos Santos overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Dos Santos is riding his opponent, not letting Tai buck him off.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Tai is taking damage to the body and head.

Tai tries to escape but Dos Santos has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Tai trying to control the hands but Dos Santos breaks the grip.
Tai is really stuck here.

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Dos Santos has the hooks in. Tai is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Dos Santos knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tai on the ground.

Tai drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Dos Santos dives on top into guard.

Dos Santos is in close to Tai's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Dos Santos is working Tai over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Cicero Dos Santos dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Tai gets caught napping as Dos Santos dives in and scores a takedown. Tai manages to retain guard.

Tai has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dos Santos is working away from the top position though.
Dos Santos takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Dos Santos working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Dos Santos is looking for a kimura here.
Tai is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Tai wants to get back to full guard but Dos Santos has passed into side control.
Dos Santos wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tai keeps working.

Tai is looking for a sweep.
Tai manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Tai wants to improve his position but Dos Santos is controlling well.
Dos Santos not doing much here.
Tai wants to get back to full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Dos Santos is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tai can do to turn this around?

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Tai shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Dos Santos sprawls well. Dos Santos wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Tai gets slowly back to his feet.
Tai tries to clinch up

so Dos Santos counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Tai is looking to stand back up but Dos Santos counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Tai.

Dos Santos is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Dos Santos lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Dos Santos stops Tai from getting back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cicero Dos Santos showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Dos Santos has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
