PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Neo Oen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Tucker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Tucker will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Neo Oen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Tucker!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Konstantin Menshow and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oen takes one to the chin there.
A shot to the body from Oen misses
and Oen takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Tucker on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
A decent looking cross lands there for Tucker.
Nice takedown defense from Tucker. No joy for Oen on that attempt.
Oen shoots in looking for a takedown but Tucker manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Oen's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Oen tries to clinch but Tucker moves out of range.
Tucker tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Oen was well out of range. Poor timing from Tucker.
Tucker lands a body shot.

Oen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Oen wants to control from the top but Tucker keeps moving.
Tucker avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Tucker really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Oen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Oen is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Tucker is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Tucker has escaped and now he's on top!

Oen looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Oen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Tucker manages to get himself to full guard.

Oen throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Tucker works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Oen pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Tucker is keeping the position for now.
Oen trying to control but Tucker is working from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Oen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Oen is pushing down on Tucker's leg trying to pass to half guard. Tucker is fighting to maintain full guard but Oen has managed to sneak the leg through.

Oen is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Tucker is just riding it out for now. Oen eventually gives up the hold.
Tucker is refusing to be controlled, as Oen sits in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Oen is looking to advance position but Tucker won't allow it.
Tucker tries to roll over but Oen keeps him under control.

Oen seems to be working for a kimura but Tucker defends the submission attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Tucker is controlling Oen's trapped leg to prevent Oen from advancing to side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Neo Oen will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Tucker gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Oen to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Oen trying to control but Tucker is working from the bottom.
Tucker controls Oen momentarily but Oen frees himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Oen trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Oen looking to sit in guard and control but Tucker gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Oen wants to sweep but no luck.

Oen is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Tucker is aware though and is defending well.
Oen is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Oen is striking from the bottom but Tucker uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Oen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Oen is trying to maintain the position but Tucker is very close to passing his half guard.
Oen wants to improve his position but Tucker is controlling well.
Oen has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Tucker is working away from the top position though.
Oen makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Oen.

Oen looking for a sweep. Not yet Oen, not yet.

Oen is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Tucker defends well.

Oen is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Oen looking to control.

Oen doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Tucker postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Oen goes for a double leg but Tucker avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Tucker continues to drive forward.
Oen staying out of range there.
Oen fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Neo Oen dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Tucker fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Oen fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Tucker throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Oen sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Oen attempts a counter takedown but Tucker avoids it well and moves away.
Oen looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Tucker lands a nice shot to the body.
Tucker throws a jab when Oen was well out of range.
Oen is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
Tucker lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Tucker is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tucker lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Tucker swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Tucker throws a hook but Oen blocks it.
Tucker dips to his left and cracks Oen with an uppercut!
Oen shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Tucker as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Neo Oen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Oen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tucker paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Tucker missing with a left hand there. Oen was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Tucker misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Oen.
Oen avoids the body shot from Tucker.
John Tucker is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Tucker ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Oen moves away.
Tucker throws a body punch but Oen moves out of range.
A jab from Tucker finds it's way through Oen's defenses.
Tucker throws a hook to the side of Oen's head but Oen sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Tucker stuffs the takedown.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Oen is defended easily by Tucker.
John Tucker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tucker fails to land with a series of punches.
Tucker misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Oen.
Tucker lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Tucker lands a nice hook to Oen's body. Oen takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Tucker looks to score with a jab to the body but Oen is just out of range.
Oen shoots and misses
and Tucker counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Oen looks to clinch
and Tucker counters with a one-two to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Oen uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Tucker.
Tucker throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Tucker throws a jab when Oen was well out of range.
Oen takes one on the button.
Oen slips a straight right by Tucker.
Tucker fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Oen looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Oen wants to control from the top but Tucker keeps moving.

Oen looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Neo Oen is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Oen seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Tucker for as long as he can get away with.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
John Tucker has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Tucker just misses with a punch to the body.

John Tucker comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Oen has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
