PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Christoper Waters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Lupo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lupo has chosen Redemption Song - Bob Marley as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Christoper Waters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jimmy Lupo!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Paul Gruel and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lupo tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Waters defends well and Lupo ends up having to push Waters into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Waters is looking to counter with a shot to the body.

Lupo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Lupo showed some decent athleticism there.
Waters tries to get to full guard but Lupo has control of the leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lupo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Waters is just riding it out for now. Lupo eventually gives up the hold.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Lupo in particular looking to stall.

Waters has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lupo is working away from the top position though.
Lupo lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Lupo is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Waters reverses the position - he's now on top in Lupo's guard.
Lupo wants to stand and escape but Waters is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Waters is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Lupo is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Lupo has escaped and now he's on top!

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Waters holds on and takes a little breather.
Lupo controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Lupo passes into half guard.
Waters is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Waters might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Waters is trying to control but can't.

Lupo wants to work for an arm triangle but Waters is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Waters really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

Lupo prevents Waters from improving his position.
Well, if Lupo is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Waters tries to kick Lupo off but Lupo keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Lupo wants to take a breather but Waters is having none of it.

Lupo is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Lupo moves into full mount! Waters won't be happy about that!

Lupo with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Lupo is working for a guillotine from mount but Waters frees his head quite easily.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Waters is controlling an arm, preventing Lupo from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Lupo dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Waters attempts a counter takedown but Lupo avoids it well and moves away.
Lupo has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Lupo gets tackled into the cage by Waters. Waters maintains the clinch.
Waters is trying to maintain a safe position but Lupo gets an underhook and turns Waters into the cage.
Waters misses with a knee to the head.
Waters is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Lupo goes for a takedown in the clinch but Waters prevents it.
Waters really is a fat lump.
Waters is trying to push Lupo away but Lupo has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Christoper Waters has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jimmy Lupo.
Waters trying to control the position but instead, Lupo has worked for underhooks and has pushed Waters into the cage.
Lupo has Waters pressed against the cage, preventing Waters from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Waters with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Lupo is trying to drag Waters to the mat but Waters just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Waters swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Waters tries to circle away but Lupo has him pinned against the cage.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Lupo takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Waters is trying to break free.

Lupo manages to pull guard.

Waters drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Lupo manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Waters has Lupo in his guard.

Lupo stands up over Waters, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Lupo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Waters swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Lupo fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Waters tries to counter by clinching up but Lupo breaks away and moves out of range.

Lupo shoots for a double leg takedown but Waters sprawls well. He's pushed Lupo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Lupo shoots for a double leg takedown but Waters sprawls well. He's pushed Lupo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Waters throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Lupo stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Waters moves into the clinch.

Waters pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Lupo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Waters circles away.
Waters dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Lupo closes the distance and clinches up with Waters, looking for a takedown. Lupo pushes Waters against the cage but Waters circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Lupo tries for a takedown but Waters sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Waters tries to counter by clinching up but Lupo breaks away and moves out of range.

It looked like Waters was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Lupo.
Lupo takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

so Waters counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Lupo scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Waters darts in and clinches Lupo up against the cage.
Waters is looking to control Lupo's arms but Lupo gets an underhook and turns him. Now Waters has his back to the cage.
Lupo drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Waters gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Lupo is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Waters's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Lupo fails with a takedown attempt.
Waters is looking to counter with head kicks.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lupo misses with a takedown
and Waters counters with a right hand to the body.
Lupo tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Waters missing with a left hand there. Lupo was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Lupo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Waters sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Waters is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Waters is looking for a kimura but Lupo is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Waters to get the leverage.

Waters is working for a kimura but Lupo is defending it quite comfortably.

Waters is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lupo is just riding it out for now. Waters eventually gives up the hold.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Waters avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Waters tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Lupo gets to his feet - Waters follows without any prompting.
Christoper Waters is winning the standup battle so far.
Lupo fails with a takedown attempt.
Waters appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Lupo looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Waters is fending him off so far but Lupo persists. Nope, Waters circles away and we're back to standing.
Waters drops down looking for a counter takedown but Lupo sprawls and moves away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Christoper Waters showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Waters has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
