PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shawn Larkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donat Simon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Shawn Larkin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Donat Simon!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Aleksandr Martynov and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simon uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Larkin.

Larkin moves into range and clinches up with Simon.
Nice body punch from Simon - that landed with a thud.
Larkin has had enough of the clinch but Simon keeps him there for the moment.
Larkin tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Simon smiles and moves away.
Larkin throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Larkin shoots in and bounces Simon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Simon avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Larkin is fighting off a takedown attempt but Simon is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Larkin to the mat. Larkin regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Larkin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Simon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Larkin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Larkin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Simon doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Simon manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Donat Simon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Simon accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Larkin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Simon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Simon manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Larkin manages to get himself to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Shawn Larkin.
I think Larkin has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
