PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Magnus Burnside (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ackroyd Bloggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Magnus Burnside!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Ackroyd Bloggs!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burnside throws a hook to the side of Bloggs's head but Bloggs sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Bloggs closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Burnside drags the fight down to the ground.

Bloggs decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
A punch lands to the side of Burnside 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Burnside misses with an uppercut. Bloggs saw that one coming.
Ackroyd Bloggs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Burnside lands with a right hand.
Bloggs is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Burnside lands with a straight right. Bloggs didn't see that one coming.
Bloggs fails to land the takedown.
An attempted straight right counter from Burnside misses the target.
Bloggs misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Bloggs moves into range and clinches up with Burnside.
Burnside is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Bloggs tries for a takedown but Burnside manages to get underhooks.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bloggs manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
We've been hearing good reports from Burnside's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Bloggs is working an open guard so Burnside takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

It looks like Ackroyd Bloggs has been cut.
Bloggs fails with a takedown attempt.
Magnus Burnside has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ackroyd Bloggs.
Bloggs drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Burnside lands a jab.
Bloggs wants to clinch.

Nice defenses there by Bloggs.
Burnside clobbers Bloggs with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Burnside throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Bloggs on the side of the head.
A head kick misses from Bloggs.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Burnside misses the jab.
Bloggs goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Burnside swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Burnside moves away from the strike by Bloggs.
Burnside displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bloggs.
Bloggs moves out of range of the strikes.
Some bone on bone action there as Burnside checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Bloggs moves out of range of the strikes.
Bloggs tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Burnside misses with an uppercut.
Nice uppercut there from Burnside.

Bloggs has closed the distance and engaged Burnside in a clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bloggs will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Burnside up against the cage.
Bloggs tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Burnside smiles and moves away.

Bloggs has closed the distance and engaged Burnside in a clinch.

Burnside breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Burnside throws the left hand but Bloggs avoids the punch easily.
Bloggs wants to clinch.
Bloggs steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Burnside.
Bloggs with the counter takedown but Burnside avoids it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A slow jab from Burnside misses its intended target.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Bloggs! But no joy.
Burnside is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Bloggs tries to close the distance and clinch up but Burnside swats him away and circles back towards the center.
A little feinted left hand from Burnside on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Burnside throws a big shot that misses.
Burnside misses with a hook. Bloggs ducked under it nicely.

Bloggs instigates a clinch.

Burnside's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Bloggs gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
A cross from Burnside lands.
Bloggs tries for a takedown but Burnside circles away easily
and Burnside counters with a huge right that knocks Bloggs out cold! Burnside is running around with a crazed look on his face - you can see how much that meant to him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Magnus Burnside!
