PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ken Yoshida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sully Murphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Murphy has chosen Godsmack - Whiskey Hangover as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ken Yoshida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sully Murphy!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Emerson Jorge and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Murphy connects with a right hand. Yoshida shakes it off.


It looks like Ken Yoshida has been cut.
Murphy misses with a double jab.
Murphy throws a right and a left that both miss.
Yoshida avoids a punch combination nicely.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Murphy crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Yoshida - the referee stops the clock and Murphy gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Yoshida. Murphy manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Yoshida throws a right hand that Murphy ducks under and follows up with a left that Murphy also avoids with ease.
Yoshida throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Yoshida throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Murphy rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Yoshida moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Nice uppercut lands for Murphy. That snapped Yoshida's head back.

Yoshida closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Murphy to the mat! Murphy manages to get full guard.

Yoshida drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Yoshida jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Yoshida's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Murphy can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Yoshida controls the pace.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Yoshida darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Murphy wants to get back to full guard.

Murphy is staying active underneath Yoshida, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Yoshida is working for an americana but Murphy has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Yoshida was thinking about the submission.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Yoshida drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Murphy manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Yoshida has Murphy in his guard.

Murphy must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Yoshida wants to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ken Yoshida will probably get the nod.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Yoshida looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Murphy connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Yoshida shoots for a double leg takedown but Murphy sprawls well. He's pushed Yoshida's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Murphy looks to land a combination but Yoshida avoids it well.

Yoshida closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Murphy to the mat! Murphy manages to get full guard.

Yoshida stalling away here and it's allowed Murphy to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Yoshida lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Murphy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Yoshida can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Murphy fails to land with a series of punches.
Murphy stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Murphy on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Yoshida feints and then cracks Murphy's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Murphy down.

Yoshida decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Murphy is breathing heavily.

Yoshida wants to work for an arm triangle but Murphy is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Murphy is staying active underneath Yoshida, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Yoshida seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Murphy is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
