Sanchez comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Where is My Mind? by Pixies kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Steve Sanchez enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dom Cruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Ron Honeybunn and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanchez misses with a double jab

and Cruz counters with a single leg into guard. Sanchez didn't expect that.
Sanchez is trying to control the position but Cruz postures up.
Cruz content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Cruz drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cruz jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Cruz wants to control from the top but Sanchez keeps moving.
Sanchez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Sanchez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cruz's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sanchez is working Cruz over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Cruz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sanchez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Cruz tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Sanchez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Cruz is pulling down on Sanchez's head. It's preventing any offense from Sanchez, at least for the moment.
Sanchez is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Cruz wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Sanchez is sitting in close to Cruz's body. Cruz has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Sanchez is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Sanchez is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Cruz.
