PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mallador Locke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brodie Nickoson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brodie Nickoson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mallador Locke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Brodie Nickoson!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nickoson misses with a lunging right hand
and Locke counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Nickoson shoots in but no luck this time.
Locke connects with a body shot that sends Nickoson's belly button to the back.
Nickoson fails to land the takedown.
Nickoson looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Nickoson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Locke as he avoids it easily.
Mallador Locke has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brodie Nickoson.

Nickoson shoots in and bounces Locke off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Nickoson is fighting to break Locke's control of his arms but Locke is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Locke manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Nickoson manages to get himself to full guard.

Locke slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Locke accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Locke loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Locke postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Nickoson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Nickoson wants to take a breather but Locke is having none of it.
Locke is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Nickoson is looking to take a break and control but Locke is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Nickoson is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Locke has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Locke wants to improve his position but Nickoson is controlling well.

Locke preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Locke wants to get back to full guard.
Locke is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Locke tries to roll over but Nickoson keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nickoson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Nickoson is stalling in the full guard.
Locke wants to sweep but no luck.
Nickoson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Nickoson trying to control the position from guard on top but Locke is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nickoson tries to score with a low kick but Locke moves his leg out of the way.
Locke is looking to counter punch.
Locke uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Nickoson.
A little feinted left hand from Locke on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Nickoson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Nickoson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Locke is fending him off so far but Nickoson persists. Nope, Locke circles away and we're back to standing.

and Locke decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Nickoson's guard.
Nickoson is trying to keep Locke in close.
Locke postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Locke engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Locke scoring with punches to the head and body.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Locke stands up over Nickoson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Nickoson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Locke can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Nickoson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mallador Locke dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Nickoson shoots in but Locke avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Locke seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
A punch combination from Nickoson misses.
Locke shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Nickoson swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Locke cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


It looks like Brodie Nickoson has been cut.
Nickoson shoots in looking for a takedown. Locke tries to sprawl out of it but Nickoson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Locke manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Locke moves into range and throws a big uppercut. OH! Nickoson goes down! Can Locke finish him!?

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Locke connects with a nice short shot to Nickoson's temple.

Nickoson is not content to let Locke control the position.

Locke has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Locke is working Nickoson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Nickoson tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Locke is able to avoid easily.
Locke lands a head shot.
A swing and a miss from Nickoson.
Locke swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Nickoson feints and as Locke raises his hands in defense, Nickoson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Nickoson throws a big elbow that misses.
Nickoson tries to free his leg and advance position but Locke is retaining full guard.
Locke seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Nickoson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Locke is looking to regain half guard here but Nickoson keeps moving and retains side control.

Locke can't do much from the bottom here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Locke is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Nickoson off and has taken his back!

Locke lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Nickoson trying to control the action but Locke just sinks the hooks in.
Nickoson tries to escape but Locke has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Locke lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Mallador Locke overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Nickoson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Locke scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Nickoson can't escape the position.
Locke throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Locke throwing sloppy strikes.
Locke lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.


Nickoson is rocked!
Locke lands a good shot there. Nickoson covers up! Locke smells blood and goes for the finish - the referee warns Nickoson to improve his position but he's not intelligently defending himself and the referee has no choice but to step in and end the fight! Locke jumps to his feet and celebrates the important win with his cornermen!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:41 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mallador Locke!
Mallador Locke spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
