PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mike Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Lozoya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mike Hawk has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Hawk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nick Lozoya!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawk pivots, looking for a leg kick but Lozoya is out of range and Hawk settles back down.
Lozoya doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Hawk misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Hawk motions for Lozoya to come forward. Hawk throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Hawk rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lozoya moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Hawk gets caught flat footed, as Lozoya shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Hawk wants to sweep here but Lozoya controlling him for the moment.
Hawk wants to get back to his feet but Lozoya passes into half guard.
Lozoya is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Hawk is trying to get back to full guard.
Lozoya looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hawk with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Lozoya wants to get back to his feet.
Lozoya not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Hawk is looking for a sweep. Lozoya is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Lozoya is taking a breather. Hawk says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Lozoya throws a sloppy head kick and Hawk moves out of range easily.
Lozoya pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Hawk stuffs the takedown.
Lozoya takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Hawk fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hawk.
Hawk is breathing heavily.
Lozoya walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Hawk stuffs the takedown.
Hawk goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Lozoya takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Lozoya slips a jab and a cross from Hawk.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hawk on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Hawk pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Hawk throws a nice head kick!
Hawk fails with the takedown

and Lozoya counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Lozoya pushes down on Hawk's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Lozoya passes to full mount!
Lozoya has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Lozoya lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Lozoya tries to control but Hawk wriggling away.
Lozoya blocks Hawk's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Hawk tries to buck Lozoya off but he can't manage it.
Hawk is wriggling around trying to escape.

Lozoya sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Lozoya can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hawk is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Lozoya dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Hawk digs a good body shot into Lozoya's ribs.
Hawk looks to land a combination but Lozoya avoids it well.
Lozoya tries to clinch up.
Hawk lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Lozoya scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Hawk shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Lozoya is desperately trying to improve his position but Hawk has a good base and remains in mount.
Lozoya wants to control but Hawk is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hawk lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Lozoya hang on?
Hawk fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Lozoya takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Hawk breaks from Lozoya's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Hawk knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lozoya on the ground.

Hawk is tying to control. Lozoya wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Lozoya keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Lozoya has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hawk is working away from the top position though.
Hawk blocks the strikes from Lozoya.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Hawk misses with a combination
and Lozoya counters with a three punch combo that has Hawk backing up. Hawk nods at Lozoya to acknowledge the strikes.

Hawk looks to land a strike but Lozoya avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Lozoya is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hawk lands a couple of decent looking shots.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's time! Hawk's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

A combination from Hawk does no damage.
Mike Hawk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hawk misses with a wild combination.
Hawk looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Nice body kick there by Lozoya.

Hawk tries to buck Lozoya off but Lozoya is having none of it.

Lozoya cracks Hawk with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Hawk tries to lock up and control but Lozoya gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Hawk is looking to get to half guard.
Lozoya tries to control but Hawk wriggling away.

Lozoya looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Hawk is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Hawk really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Lozoya can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hawk is looking to escape.

Lozoya wants to finish this one by submission but Hawk is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Lozoya.

Lozoya lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Lozoya trying to control but Hawk is having none of it.

Lozoya has control of Hawk's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Hawk regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hawk is trying desperately to improve position.
Hawk gets back to half guard.
Hawk missing with punches from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Nick Lozoya comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lozoya has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
