Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joe Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edgar Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joe Joe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Edgar Alves! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, William Peck and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alves throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Joe's waist but Joe gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Alves off to one side. Alves takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Alves looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Alves content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Alves postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Alves really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Joe. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Joe keeping moving, preventing Alves from controlling successfully. Joe pulls Alves in close to prevent any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Alves controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Alves must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Alves trying to control but Joe is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alves is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Alves passes Joe's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Alves is figuring out what he wants to do next. Alves is just content to waste time from the top position. Joe takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Joe working a defensive guard here.
Alves is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Alves throws a strike but Joe rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Alves wants to sweep but no luck. Alves lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Joe not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Alves lying in Joe's guard like a wet fish here, stalling away. Joe decides he's had enough of all that nonsense - he escapes his hips and locks up an armbar! Wow, that was slick! Alves taps! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Joe Joe! Joe Joe was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
