PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Greg Battle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bernard Hoolihan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Greg Battle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 2, fighting out of London, Bernard Hoolihan!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Daniel Bishop and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Battle tries to keep at a distance but Hoolihan has taken the fight into the clinch.
Hoolihan prevents Battle from breaking the clinch.
Hoolihan lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Battle is trying to break the clinch but Hoolihan is controlling him.
Hoolihan stops a takedown attempt from Battle.
Battle is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Hoolihan to keep the fight standing.
Battle fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Greg Battle. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Battle is trying to break the clinch but Hoolihan is controlling him.
Battle tries for a takedown. No joy.
Battle misses with a punch to the body.

Hoolihan has Battle pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Hoolihan pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Battle tumbling to the mat - Hoolihan dives into Battle's guard.

Battle manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Battle tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Hoolihan manages to pull guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hoolihan being controlled here, momentarily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hoolihan looking for a sweep. Not yet Hoolihan, not yet.

Hoolihan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Battle doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Battle manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hoolihan looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Battle sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Battle has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hoolihan is proving hard to escape from.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hoolihan pulls Battle in close to his closed guard and prevents Battle from doing any damage or advancing position.
Hoolihan is trying to control the position but Battle postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Hoolihan dives in and scores a takedown into Battle's guard.
Hoolihan cracks Battle with a solid left hand.
Hoolihan throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Battle works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Battle keeping moving, preventing Hoolihan from controlling successfully.
Hoolihan is looking to stand up but Battle won't let him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hoolihan slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Hoolihan tries to advance position but instead Battle slips a leg back in to half guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hoolihan stands up out of the half guard.

Hoolihan changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Battle looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Battle sneaks out the side door and pushes Hoolihan away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Hoolihan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Battle sprawls well initially but Hoolihan persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Battle pushes Hoolihan off and gets back to his feet.
Battle is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hoolihan scores with a three punch combo!


It looks like Greg Battle has been cut.
Jab, jab by Hoolihan - just one landing.


Battle is rocked!

Hoolihan dives in and gets a big takedown. He lands in full mount and immediately unloads a series of heavy strikes! Battle has had enough and taps out.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Bernard Hoolihan!
