PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dewey Estrada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Janotta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 1, fighting out of New York, Dewey Estrada!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Janotta!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Franklyn Lucas and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Estrada moves into range and clinches up with Janotta.
Estrada fails to pull guard.
Estrada tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Janotta smiles and moves away.
Horrible takedown attempt by Estrada or perhaps it was just good defense by Janotta, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dewey Estrada. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Estrada counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Janotta should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Estrada tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Janotta just stands there and leans against the cage.

Estrada is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Janotta breaks from the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Janotta throws a head kick but Estrada moves out of range.

Janotta fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Estrada, pushing him back against the cage.

Estrada jumps guard but Janotta turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Estrada is struggling to control the position.
Janotta will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Estrada up against the cage.
Janotta looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Estrada keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Janotta's efforts to push away.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Estrada takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Estrada stalls.
Estrada gets a warning from the ref for wasting time.
Estrada is pushing Janotta up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Estrada for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Estrada's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Janotta drives through with a takedown into Estrada's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Janotta must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Estrada is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Janotta is controlling him.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Janotta has closed the distance and engaged Estrada in a clinch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Janotta.
Janotta has Estrada pushed against the cage.
Estrada jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Janotta walks away with a smile on his face. Estrada gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Janotta goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Estrada shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Janotta defends it nicely.

Estrada shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Janotta is trying to defend but Estrada finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Estrada is trying to work for a kimura but Janotta is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Janotta gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Janotta manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Estrada chips away with some ground and pound.
Janotta preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Estrada postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Estrada avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Janotta controls Estrada momentarily but Estrada frees himself.

Estrada is working Janotta over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Janotta is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Janotta has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Janotta wants to stand and escape but Estrada is having none of it.
Estrada stands up over Janotta, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Janotta wants to control the position but Estrada says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Estrada prevents Janotta from improving his position.
Janotta has a hand on Estrada's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Estrada takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Janotta is breathing heavily.
Janotta is in all sorts of trouble here.
Janotta is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Janotta is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Janotta is looking to get to half guard.

Dewey Estrada overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Estrada working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Janotta is desperately trying to improve his position but Estrada has a good base and remains in mount.
Estrada postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Janotta looks a forlorn figure.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Janotta slaps away a takedown attempt from Estrada, before circling back to the center of the mat.
As Estrada backs off Janotta throws a huge counter combo but Estrada manages to avoid it all.
Janotta throws a right and a left that both miss.

Janotta drives through with a takedown into Estrada's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Estrada has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Janotta is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Janotta would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Janotta takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Estrada trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Janotta throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Estrada works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Estrada has control of Janotta's left arm, preventing Janotta from doing any damage.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Janotta throws a nice looking combination but Estrada bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Janotta takes a swing at Estrada's ribcage but misses.
Estrada tries to counter by clinching up but Janotta breaks away and moves out of range.
Janotta tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Estrada manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Estrada seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Janotta throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Estrada shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Janotta as he avoids it easily.
It seemed like Janotta was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Janotta wants to clinch.
Estrada tries to counter with a takedown but Janotta is quick to defend against it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
A combination from Janotta does no damage.
Dewey Estrada is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Janotta stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Janotta wants it to stay on the feet.
Janotta misses with the body kick

and Estrada counters with a nice double leg into side control. Janotta won't be happy with that.
The strikes coming from Estrada are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Janotta looking for a sweep but Estrada has passed into full mount! Oh no!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Janotta is trying desperately to improve position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dewey Estrada.
I think Estrada has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
