Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Edmond Mcdowell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Joe Magnuson! The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Marco Blurström and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mcdowell gets caught flat footed, as Magnuson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Magnuson is working Mcdowell over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Mcdowell keeping moving, preventing Magnuson from controlling successfully. Mcdowell trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Mcdowell is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Magnuson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mcdowell has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Magnuson has managed to get both his arms back between Mcdowell's legs - danger averted. Magnuson stands up from guard. Let's bang! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The fight moves into the clinch position. Magnuson gets a trip takedown into half guard. Magnuson controlling the action here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Magnuson is working for a kimura but Mcdowell is defending it quite comfortably.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mcdowell is defending against the submission attempts here by Magnuson.
Mcdowell looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Magnuson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mcdowell keeps working. Mcdowell wants to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Magnuson is working for a submission of some sort.
Magnuson is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Magnuson moves into full mount! Mcdowell won't be happy about that! Magnuson landing strikes from the mount. Mcdowell is looking to improve his position but Magnuson isn't that keen on the idea. Magnuson is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Mcdowell is forced to tap! Great finish!
