Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Paul Tew and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Charles tries to clinch but Merrill moves out of range.
Charles shoots in but Merrill avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Charles swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Merrill holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Charles successfully pulls guard.
Charles wants to sweep but no luck.
Charles controls Merrill momentarily but Merrill frees himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Charles has control of Merrill's left arm, preventing Merrill from doing any damage.
Merrill keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Charles's head.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Charles on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Charles holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Merrill postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Charles looks a forlorn figure.

Merrill loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Charles scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Merrill land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Merrill stands and salutes the crowd.
