Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alfonso Beneventi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Svyatoslav Bondarenko! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Edson Gomes and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Beneventi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bondarenko as he avoids it easily. Bondarenko tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Beneventi keeps the fight on the outside. Beneventi closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Beneventi lands with a left to the head. Beneventi lands with a short shot to the head. Beneventi stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. Bondarenko told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight. Beneventi swings wildly with an uppercut but Bondarenko uses good head movement to avoid it. Bondarenko throws an elbow but it misses.
Bondarenko pushes off an throws an elbow but Beneventi leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage. Bondarenko's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! Bondarenko blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Beneventi lands a body shot in the clinch.
Beneventi lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Bondarenko pushes off an throws an elbow but Beneventi leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage. Beneventi avoids the elbow strike from Bondarenko, against the cage.
Beneventi blocks an elbow strike. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Beneventi lands with a short head shot on the inside. Beneventi lands a big right hand that drops Bondarenko! The killer instinct kicks in and Beneventi finishes his opponent with a series of strikes from mount. A dominating finish by Beneventi!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alfonso Beneventi! After winning the bout, Alfonso Beneventi thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
