Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 50 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Frank Harris! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Zack Milley! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Daniel Cesar and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Harris gets caught napping as Milley dives in and scores a takedown. Harris manages to retain guard. Harris manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. Harris drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Milley throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Harriss head.
It looks like Frank Harris has been cut. Milley gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Harris.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. Milley prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Harris. That's going to take a lot out of him. Harris looking for a takedown. Harris wants a takedown.
Milley is looking to break free of the clinch but Harris has double underhooks. Harris is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Harris is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Milley pulls guard successfully.
Milley seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Harris throwing strikes from guard but Milley blocks nicely. Milley controls Harris momentarily but Harris frees himself. Harris won't allow Milley to get back to his feet. Milley looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Harris's corner. There ya go! There ya go! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Harris throws an elbow that misses. Milley uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Harris's guard. Nice move by Milley! Milley throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Harris works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Milley is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Milley postures up in Harris's guard and throws a big left but Harris blocks it. Harris preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Milley trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Milley stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Harris has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Milley manages to get his head free but now Harris has transitioned to an armbar! Milley grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Harris! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Frank Harris! During a confident post fight interview, Frank Harris thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
