Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Luiz Correia Azevedo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, David Goode! The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Santiago Holmes and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Azevedo moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Azevedo slips a straight right by Goode. Goode ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Azevedo manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Goode on his heels. He'll look to pass Goode's guard now, I'm sure. Azevedo trying to control the position from guard on top but Goode is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Goode really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Azevedo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Azevedo is pushing down on Goode's leg trying to pass to half guard. Goode is fighting to maintain full guard but Azevedo has managed to sneak the leg through. Azevedo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Goode defends it well. Azevedo wants to free his trapped foot but Goode is holding on for dear life with his legs. Goode is looking for a sweep. Azevedo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Azevedo seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Goode has recovered full guard. Azevedo looking to pass the guard. Azevedo passes into half guard. Azevedo passes to side control. Azevedo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Goode is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Azevedo is looking to take a break and control but Goode is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Azevedo tries to advance to mount but Goode denies him. Goode gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Azevedo wants to finish this one by submission but Goode is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Azevedo.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Azevedo looking for a guillotine from mount but Goode is having none of it. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Goode can do anything to dispel that myth. Azevedo takes Goode's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Goode is in trouble. Goode looking very determined here, making life difficult for Azevedo.
Azevedo is looking for the choke from the back position but Goode is controlling his hands well. Azevedo is cranking Goode's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Goode! He's tightened the choke and Goode is tapping out!
