Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Yasuhiro Akagi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karl Denke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Akagi kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Nash the Slash - American Band. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yasuhiro Akagi! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Karl Denke! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Thiago Cunha and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Akagi has managed to clinch.
Denke jumps guard and drags Akagi to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Denke is controlling Akagi's posture. Akagi wants to pass the guard but Denke is keeping the position. Akagi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Denke has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Akagi has managed to get both his arms back between Denke's legs - danger averted. Denke keeping full guard, as Akagi tries to pass. Akagi works a leg free and moves into half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Akagi is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Denke is pressing down on Akagi's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Denke wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Akagi passes into half guard. Akagi is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Denke is just riding it out for now. Akagi eventually gives up the hold. Akagi wants to free his trapped foot but Denke is holding on for dear life with his legs. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Denke tries to kick Akagi off but Akagi keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Denke desperately trying to maintain half guard. Denke works his way to full guard. Good work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Denke is trying to keep Akagi in close.
Denke had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Akagi defends it easily. Denke has his foot on Akagi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Akagi works his way back into a safe position though. Akagi works a leg free and moves into half guard. Akagi is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Denke doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Akagi. Akagi is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Denke sees it coming and defends easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Akagi is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Denke has managed to free his arm - good work. Denke slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Akagi tries to free his leg and advance position but Denke is retaining full guard. Akagi has gone for a leg lock! Denke slips out almost immediately though and dives into Akagi's guard. Denke has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Akagi is proving hard to escape from. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Akagi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Denke can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Denke wants to stand but Akagi has a closed guard, so he can't escape. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Yasuhiro Akagi will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Denke swats away the attempt to clinch by Akagi. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Akagi. A lazy left from Akagi finds it's target. Denke thows a left - swing and a miss! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Akagi ducks under a wild hook from Denke. Akagi ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Akagi was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit. Akagi lands a slapping body shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Denke throws a shot from downtown. Akagi moves away and avoids it. Akagi thinks about countering with a body kick. Denke circles away from the clinch attempt.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Akagi. Akagi throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Karl Denke is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Akagi throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Akagi slips under a jab from Denke. Akagi defending well as Denke loads up on a big left hand. It appears Akagi was looking to counter with a kick there. Denke throws a lazy right hand but Akagi sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Both fighters circling a little - Akagi finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Akagi works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
It looks like Karl Denke has been cut. Denke has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. Akagi falls off balance throwing a combination
and Denke connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Akagi lands a lovely overhand right. Akagi throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

And Denke tries to counter it with a takedown but Akagi pushes his down on his head and steps out. Akagi misses with a right hand and Denke counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Denke rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Denke takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Denke misses the jab.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Akagi is looking to clinch. Denke throws a poor cross that misses
and Akagi counters with a nice uppercut. Akagi uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Denke is rocked! Akagi tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Denke tries to counter by closing the distance. Denke is still on wobbly legs! Can Akagi finish him? Denke swings for the body but Akagi moves out of range.
Denke seems to have recovered his senses. Akagi takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Akagi's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Denke connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Akagi scrambles back to his feet. The fighters circle momentarily. Akagi darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Denke throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Akagi. Akagi feinted there with a counter leg kick.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A jab from Denke misses. Akagi darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Denke throws a hook to the side of Akagi's head but Akagi sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Akagi has managed to clinch.

Akagi has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Denke uses from the top position. Denke stopping the sweep attempt from Akagi. Akagi is trying to control the position from the bottom.

He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Akagi shoots in looking for a takedown but Denke manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Akagi's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Akagi wants to clinch but Denke slips to the side and Akagi takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Akagi tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Denke manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Akagi displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Denke throws out the jab. Denke connects with a body shot. Denke uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Akagi.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Akagi throws a hook but Denke avoids it easily. Akagi moves out of range of the strikes. Akagi swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Denke looks to throw the jab but Akagi is out of range. Denke leaves Akagi with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

I was talking to Akagi's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Akagi throws a head punch that misses. Akagi misses with some punches.

Akagi digs a right hand underneath Denke's ribcage. Denke let out a lung full of air as it connected. Akagi has a couple of punches blocked by Denke.

Akagi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Denke pulls his head out easily. Denke is trying to control. Akagi wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Denke is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Denke has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Akagi defend it? Denke steps over the head and cranks it - Akagi is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Denke!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:17 of round 4, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Karl Denke! Karl Denke retains his welterweight title! A relieved looking Karl Denke thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
