Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Seth Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Can (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Seth Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tom Can!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Can moves in looking to clinch but Hughes pushes him off.
Can fails with an attempt to clinch.
Can tries to close the distance and clinch but Hughes swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Can throws a head kick but Hughes moves out of range.
Hughes tries to close the distance and clinch but Can swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Hughes holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Can's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Can tries for a takedown but Hughes circles away easily

and Hughes counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Can's guard now.
Hughes working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Hughes has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Hughes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Can throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Hughes is looking to work some ground and pound but Can has wrist control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Can is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Can had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Hughes is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Can Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Hughes's back instead.
Hughes rolls, trying to escape but Can keeps control of the position.
Hughes just trying to survive but Can is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Even with his hooks in, Can manages to miss with strikes from the back.
Hughes tries to escape but Can has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Can doesn't have the hooks in and Hughes manages to turn into his guard.

Can escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hughes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Hughes is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Can is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Seth Hughes will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Can has his takedown stuffed

and Hughes counters with a single leg into guard. Can didn't expect that.
Hughes content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Hughes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Can swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hughes with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Can is trying to keep Hughes in close.
Hughes is looking to work some ground and pound but Can has wrist control.

Can has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hughes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hughes drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hughes jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Can throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Can darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hughes gets back to full guard.
Can wants to control from the top but Hughes keeps moving.

Can drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Can jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Hughes looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Can pushes down on Hughes's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Hughes wants to get back to full guard.

Hughes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
