The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gauthier forces Cormier back against the cage and clinches.
Cormier tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Gauthier just stands there and leans against the cage.
Cormier tries to stall but Gauthier uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Gauthier is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Cormier to keep the fight standing.
Gauthier slowing the pace effectively.
Gauthier successfully pulls guard.
Cormier postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Gauthier working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cormier doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cormier manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Cormier wants to control from the top but Gauthier keeps moving.
Cormier knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gauthier on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gauthier is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Cormier rolls with it to try and escape but Gauthier cranks on the arm and Cormier is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
