PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Eddy Dennis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barney Rubble (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Eddy Dennis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Barney Rubble!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rubble closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Dennis bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Rubble misses with a body kick.

Dennis clinches up against the cage.

Dennis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Dennis clinches with his opponent.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dennis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Dennis takes the fight into the clinch.
Dennis tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Rubble lands a takedown into guard.

Dennis pushes Rubble off and gets back to his feet.

Rubble scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rubble looks winded!

Dennis is trying to control Rubble's posture but Rubble avoids it.

Rubble decides to stand back up.
Dennis fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Rubble fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Dennis to the ground. Rubble is now in Dennis's guard.

Dennis manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Dennis closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dennis seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Rubble for as long as he can get away with.

Dennis is looking to take a break and control but Rubble is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Dennis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rubble, who protects the arm well.

Rubble is not content to let Dennis control the position.

Dennis decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Dennis shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rubble defends it nicely.
Dennis lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Rubble circles away quickly and effectively.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rubble lands with a shot to the body.
Rubble throws a head kick that misses.
Dennis blocks a head kick by Rubble.
Dennis wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Rubble shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Dennis napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Rubble has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Rubble moves in looking to clinch but Dennis pushes him off.
Dennis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rubble sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Dennis somewhat.
Rubble has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Dennis is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Rubble connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eddy Dennis dominated that round.

Dennis rushes Rubble and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Dennis is looking for a takedown.

Rubble gets control of Dennis's arms and successfully pulls guard. Rubble will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Dennis wants to control from the top but Rubble keeps moving.
Dennis showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dennis has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Rubble is breathing heavily.

Rubble wants to stand and escape but Dennis is having none of it.
Eddy Dennis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Dennis is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Eddy Dennis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nice takedown defense from Rubble. No joy for Dennis on that attempt.
Rubble misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Dennis.
Rubble throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Rubble decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Dennis takes the fight into the clinch.
Rubble wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Dennis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Rubble gets a double leg takedown into Dennis's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rubble has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Dennis is proving hard to escape from.

Dennis has his foot on Rubble's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rubble works his way back into a safe position though.
Dennis controls Rubble momentarily but Rubble frees himself.

Rubble decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Dennis, up you get!
Dennis circles away from the clinch attempt.
Dennis throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Rubble tries to close the distance and clinch but Dennis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
As Rubble looks to move away, Dennis throws a big counter combo but Rubble just gets out of the way.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Dennis enables Rubble to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Dennis manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Rubble would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Dennis pushes Rubble off and scrambles back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Dennis forces Rubble back against the cage and clinches.
Dennis's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Rubble is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Dennis can't fight it off and eventually Rubble manages to take the fight to the floor. Dennis looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Dennis pushes Rubble off and scrambles back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Dennis looking to score a takedown here. Rubble is defending well but Dennis drives through and ends up in Rubble's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Rubble is staying active underneath Dennis, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Rubble gets tackled into the cage by Dennis. Dennis maintains the clinch.

Rubble pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Rubble manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Dennis on his heels. He'll look to pass Dennis's guard now, I'm sure.
Dennis is trying to keep Rubble in close.

Dennis is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Rubble gets to his feet. Dennis looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Dennis has taken the fight to the clinch.
Rubble looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Rubble escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rubble dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Dennis moves into range and clinches up with Rubble.

Dennis jumps guard but Rubble turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Rubble breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Barney Rubble has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Dennis closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Rubble pulls guard successfully.
Dennis lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Dennis seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Eddy Dennis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dennis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
