PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charles Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Shayle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Charles Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dan Shayle!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shayle fails to land with a series of punches.
Williams avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Williams closes the distance and clinches up with Shayle, looking for a takedown. Williams pushes Shayle against the cage but Shayle circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Shayle keeps the fight on the outside.
Williams tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Shayle paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Williams slips a jab and a cross from Shayle.

Shayle closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Williams is trying to control Shayle's posture but Shayle avoids it.
Shayle tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Shayle misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Shayle decides to stand back up. Shayle steps back and let's Williams get back to his feet.
Williams shoots in looking for a takedown. Shayle tries to sprawl out of it but Williams keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Shayle manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Shayle will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Williams slips a jab and a cross from Shayle.
Shayle looks to land a combination but Williams avoids it well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A combination from Shayle does no damage.
Shayle avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Williams takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
No luck for Williams with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Charles Williams. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Williams tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shayle swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Shayle throws a sloppy head kick and Williams moves out of range easily.
Shayle misses with a series of wild punches.
Shayle dips to his left and cracks Williams with an uppercut!
Williams dodges the punch combination from Shayle.

The fight stays on the outside here - Williams looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Shayle rushes Williams and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Shayle escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Dan Shayle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shayle throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Williams tries to clinch up

and Shayle moves into the clinch.
Williams keeps control of Shayle as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Williams wants to stall.

Shayle gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Williams regains guard.

Shayle gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Shayle pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Shayle throws a lazy right hand but Williams sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Shayle circles away from the clinch attempt.
Williams shoots for a takedown but Shayle saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Shayle clinches with his opponent.
Shayle lands a body punch in the clinch.

Shayle manages to pull guard.
Williams stops Shayle from standing up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Williams wants to control from the top but Shayle keeps moving.
Williams won't allow Shayle to get back to his feet.
Shayle keeping moving, preventing Williams from controlling successfully.
Shayle bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Williams's guard.
Shayle looks gassed!
Shayle in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Williams looking for a guillotine here but Shayle defends easily.

Shayle gets to his feet - Williams follows without any prompting.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Williams tries to close the distance and clinch but Shayle swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Shayle!
Williams fails with an attempt to clinch.

Shayle gets a clinch.
Shayle just leaning against Williams, taking a breather.
A battle for position here, against the cage.

Shayle turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Shayle manages to end up in side control.
Williams manages to work his way to half guard, despite Shayle's best efforts.
Williams moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Williams working for a triangle but Shayle defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Williams has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Shayle can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Shayle dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Williams tries to keep at a distance but Shayle has taken the fight into the clinch.

Shayle breaks from the clinch.

Shayle gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Williams blocks an elbow strike from Shayle.
Shayle has had enough of the clinch but Williams keeps him there for the moment.
Shayle is trying to break the clinch but Williams has him pressed against the cage.

Shayle pulls Williams into guard.

Shayle is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Shayle wants to stand up but Williams is controlling him.
Williams advances position into side control!
Shayle is breathing heavily.

Williams is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Shayle is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Williams working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
You can see the frustration on Shayle's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Williams tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Williams has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Shayle sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Shayle pushes Williams off looking to stand but Williams dives back in and keeps control.

Shayle pushes Williams off and gets back to his feet.
Charles Williams is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Williams showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Shayle.
Shayle clobbers Williams with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Shayle clinches with his opponent.

Shayle pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Shayle scores with a nice strike.
Shayle tests Williams's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Shayle closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Shayle lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shayle wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Williams has him pressed against the cage.
A looping hook to the body misses from Williams. Shayle does a little dance to reset his feet.
Williams shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Shayle rushes Williams and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Shayle manages to break the clinch.
Shayle throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Williams.

Shayle forces Williams back against the cage and clinches.
A short left from Shayle.

Shayle has picked Williams up - he's going for a ride! Shayle dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Shayle thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Williams's head.
It looks like Shayle is going to stand back up.

Williams looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Williams looking for submissions off his back.

Shayle is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Williams manages to get to full guard.
Shayle stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Williams swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Williams looking for a triangle here. Shayle is fighting it but it looks tight! Williams pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Shayle is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Charles Williams!
