2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Bobby Boucher! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rokuya Date! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Bart Greer and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Date throws a hook to the side of Boucher's head but Boucher sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Date uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Boucher. Date throws out a counter right but Boucher avoids it with no problem. Boucher misses with a two punch combination.
Boucher scores with a takedown into Date's guard. Date keeping full guard, as Boucher tries to pass. Date really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Boucher. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Boucher missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Boucher trying to control but Date is working from the bottom. Boucher wants to pass the guard but Date is keeping the position. Boucher wants to control from the top but Date keeps moving.

Boucher is looking for a kimura but Date is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Boucher to get the leverage. Boucher seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Date does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Date can do anything to dispel that myth. Date is trying to get back to full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Boucher cracks a nice hook into Date's ribs.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Boucher is looking to take a break and control but Date is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Boucher is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Date has escaped the position, nice work there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Date is not content to let Boucher control the position. Boucher postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Boucher has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Boucher working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Bobby Boucher overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Boucher misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Boucher is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
