The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goodwin leaves Ribeiro with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ribeiro tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Goodwin swivels and escapes.
Ribeiro looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Goodwin is fending him off so far but Ribeiro persists. Nope, Goodwin circles away and we're back to standing.
Merlin Goodwin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bernardo Ribeiro.
Ribeiro tries to score a power double leg takedown but Goodwin sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ribeiro somewhat.

Goodwin gets caught napping as Ribeiro dives in and scores a takedown. Goodwin manages to retain guard.
Goodwin could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Goodwin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Goodwin has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Ribeiro is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Goodwin.

Ribeiro has hold of Goodwin's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Goodwin seems comfortable defending it but Ribeiro has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Goodwin is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Goodwin is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Ribeiro couldn't care less - he's delighted!
