1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rio Vargas! The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Aleksandr Martynov and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vargas avoids a kick to the body.
Tankmit throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Tankmit!
Tankmit gets a takedown into half guard. Tankmit is trying to control. Vargas wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Vargas has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Tankmit is working away from the top position though. Vargas looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Tankmit throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Vargas actively working from the bottom here. Vargas looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Vargas is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Tankmit pulls his head out easily.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Vargas can do anything to dispel that myth. Vargas trying to get back to full guard but Tankmit takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Tankmit thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Vargas sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Vargas looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Tankmit wants to free his trapped foot but Vargas is holding on for dear life with his legs.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vargas blocking the ground and pound attempt from Tankmit. Tankmit tries to pass the half guard into mount. Vargas knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Vargas is looking for a sweep. Tankmit is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Tankmit decides to stand and escape the position. Tankmit swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Nice sprawl there from Tankmit as Vargas shoots in. Tankmit tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Vargas manages to circle out of the way. Vargas shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Tankmit but Tankmit pushes him off and we're back to square one. As Vargas tries to get set, Tankmit tries to push him back and clinch up but Vargas manages to avoid the attempt. Tankmit paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Vargas tries for a takedown but Tankmit circles away easily and Tankmit counters with a straight right hand. Daniel Tankmit has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rio Vargas. Vargas goes for a double leg but Tankmit avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Tankmit continues to drive forward. Vargas looks winded! Vargas takes a shot right to the bread basket. The fight moves into the clinch position. Tankmit lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action! Tankmit is trying to work for a kimura but Vargas is defending well.
Tankmit decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Tankmit stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Tankmit wants it to stay on the feet. And Tankmit counters with a quick kick to the body but Vargas blocks it. Tankmit dives in and scores a takedown into Vargas's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tankmit lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Tankmit forces Vargas back against the cage and clinches. Vargas is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Tankmit is defending well. Vargas is pushing Tankmit up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. A short right from Tankmit on the inside. Tankmit's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Vargas misses with a takedown attempt and Tankmit counters with a series of strikes. Vargas will be more careful next time no doubt. Tankmit throws a leg kick that misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vargas tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Tankmit defends well and Vargas ends up having to push Tankmit into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Daniel Tankmit has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rio Vargas. Tankmit throws a sloppy head kick and Vargas moves out of range easily. Vargas is breathing heavily. Tankmit drives through and clinches with Vargas against the cage.
Tankmit turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Tankmit manages to end up in side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vargas is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Tankmit stalling. Tankmit's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Vargas is not content to let Tankmit control the position. Tankmit moves nicely into side control. Tankmit throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Tankmit wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vargas keeps working.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Vargas manages to work his way to half guard, despite Tankmit's best efforts. Vargas actively working from the bottom here. Vargas looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Tankmit controlling the action here. Tankmit prevents Vargas from standing back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Vargas tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Vargas wants to control but Tankmit is keeping busy and won't allow it. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Tankmit is working for a submission of some sort.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Vargas misses with a takedown attempt and Vargas takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Tankmit lands with a nice combination. Vargas backs away looking to recover. Daniel Tankmit is winning the standup battle so far. Tankmit clinches up with Vargas and pushes him back against the cage. Vargas lands a takedown into guard.
Tankmit wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Vargas looking to pass the guard.

Vargas gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Tankmit counters with a stiff right hand. Tankmit leaves Vargas with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Tankmit seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Vargas forces Tankmit back against the cage and clinches. Come on Vargas - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Vargas takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Tankmit turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Tankmit manages to end up in side control. Vargas tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. Vargas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tankmit. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Tankmit get's back to his feet.

Tankmit has Vargas pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Tankmit pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Vargas tumbling to the mat - Tankmit dives into Vargas's guard. Tankmit controlling from the top position. Vargas is working an open guard so Tankmit takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Tankmit misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Tankmit throws a right and a left that both miss. Tankmit closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Vargas did well to prevent Tankmit getting side control. Vargas looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Tankmit thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Vargas's head. Tankmit is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Vargas can do to turn this around? Tankmit is looking to take a break and control but Vargas is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Tankmit is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Vargas has a hand on Tankmit's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Tankmit tries to control but Vargas wriggling away. Vargas is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Vargas tries to hold on but Tankmit pushes him away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tankmit looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Rio Vargas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Tankmit avoids the attempt from Vargas to control. Tankmit trying to control but Vargas is having none of it. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Vargas is trying desperately to improve position. Daniel Tankmit is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Tankmit can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Vargas is looking to escape.
And that's the end of the fight! Daniel Tankmit showed his dominance in that final round. Well Tankmit has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
