The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smitts fails with a takedown attempt.
Smitts throws a front kick aimed at Dostojevskij 's knee but Dostojevskij avoids it well.
Dostojevskij misses with an uppercut.
Smitts ducks under a wild hook from Dostojevskij .
Horrible takedown by Smitts or perhaps it was just good defense by Dostojevskij which made him look bad.
Dostojevskij throws a right and a left that Smitts avoids nicely.

and Smitts counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Smitts throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dostojevskij works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dostojevskij wants to sweep here but Smitts controlling him for the moment.
Dostojevskij throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Smitts wants to stand and escape but instead Dostojevskij has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Smitts throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Smitts is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Smitts counters with a shoot takedown. Dostojevskij fights it but they end up in guard.
Smitts controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Smitts preventing the sweep.
Smitts wants to control from the top but Dostojevskij keeps moving.
Dostojevskij lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Smitts!
Smitts looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
I really don't envy Smitts right now.
