Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Bruens! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chuck Liddell! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Frank Dennis and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bruens looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Chuck Liddell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Bruens closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Liddell pushes Bruens off looking to stand but Bruens dives back in and keeps control.
Bruens is keen to just control but Liddell is a slippery customer. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Liddell is looking to escape. Bruens is looking to take a break and control but Liddell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Liddell is trying to stand up here but Bruens is controlling him well. Bruens missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Bruens with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Bruens wants to pass to mount but Liddell is defending the position. Bruens could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Liddell tries to clinch but Bruens is having none of it. Liddell tries to clinch but Bruens moves out of range. Liddell gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Liddell wants to stand and escape but Bruens is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bruens is standing up over Liddell. Liddell looks to escape but Bruens dives into side control.
Bruens prevents Liddell from escaping the position. Liddell looks gassed! Bruens advances to full mount. Liddell is trying to stand but he's just given Bruens his back. Liddell trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Bruens has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Liddell is in real trouble here. Bruens gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Liddell is tapping out! Bruens wins by rear naked choke!
