Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Iokua Mikala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kingston Sawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Iokua Mikala!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kingston Sawa!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mikala throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Sawa closes the distance and clinches.

Sawa breaks the clinch.
Mikala throws a looping overhand right but Sawa ducks down to avoid it.
Mikala is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Sawa.
Mikala lands a head kick!


It looks like Kingston Sawa has been cut.
Mikala throws a sloppy head kick and Sawa moves out of range easily.
Sawa avoids the head kick by Mikala.
Sawa avoids the head kick by Mikala.
Sawa misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Mikala tries a head kick but it misses.
Sawa fails with the takedown.
Mikala misses with a head kick.
Mikala throws a sloppy head kick and Sawa moves out of range easily.
Mikala throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mikala doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Sawa rushes Mikala and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Sawa breaks the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sawa shoots in looking for a takedown. Mikala tries to sprawl out of it but Sawa keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mikala manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Iokua Mikala has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kingston Sawa.
Sawa ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mikala moves away.
Mikala takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.


It looks like Iokua Mikala has been cut.
Sawa avoids the head kick by Mikala.
Sawa throws a head kick but Mikala moves out of range.

Sawa gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Sawa pulls guard effortlessly.
Sawa is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Mikala looking to pass the guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sawa can do anything to dispel that myth.
Sawa looking for a sweep. Not yet Sawa, not yet.
Sawa keeping moving, preventing Mikala from controlling successfully.
Sawa is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sawa is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Mikala gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Sawa fails to land the takedown.
Sawa shoots in but Mikala avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Mikala throws a lazy head kick

and Sawa decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mikala's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Mikala looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Sawa passes into half guard.
Mikala wants to improve his position but Sawa is controlling well.
Mikala is breathing heavily.
Sawa stops Mikala from getting back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mikala wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sawa tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mikala knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Mikala looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sawa in particular looking to stall.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Sawa connects with a nice short shot to Mikala's temple.
Mikala trying to control but Sawa postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sawa tries to stand but can't do so whilst Mikala controls his leg.
Sawa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mikala. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sawa seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mikala does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Sawa seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Sawa is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mikala defends it well.
Mikala gets full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mikala keeping full guard, as Sawa tries to pass.
Sawa tries to stand but Mikala is controlling from the bottom.

Mikala had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Sawa is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Mikala Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Sawa's back instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kingston Sawa will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's time! Back to the action!


Mikala sets himself and throws a head kick that knocks Sawa to the ground! Mikala dives into full mount looking to finish!
Sawa is in all sorts of trouble here.
Mikala moves to the back position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mikala has the hooks in. Sawa is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Sawa trying to control the action but Mikala just sinks the hooks in.

Mikala is cranking Sawa's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Sawa! He's tightened the choke and Sawa is tapping out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Iokua Mikala!
