Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hector Ortiz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Cook! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cook throws a body punch but Ortiz moves out of range. Ortiz swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Cook throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Ortiz throws a big counter combination but Cook scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Cook connects with an inside leg kick. Cook lands with a thumping leg kick.
Ortiz looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Cook lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Ortiz looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cook misses with an attempted mid kick.
Cook digs a good hook to Ortiz's body.
Ortiz takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Cook swings widly with a right hand
and Ortiz counters with a left to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cook misses the jab. Ortiz is looking for a counter combo. Cook scores with a hook to the body. Ortiz takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Ortiz stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Cook. We've been told by Ortiz's head coaches at Death Valley Training Facility that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Ortiz misses with a jab, cross combination.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Cook.
A solid leg kick lands there for Cook.
Cook misses with a left hand and Ortiz cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Cook feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Ortiz's calf. Cook throws a hook to the side of Ortiz's head but Ortiz sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. As Cook looks to move away, Ortiz throws a big counter combo but Cook just gets out of the way. Ortiz shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Ortiz is rocked!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cook shakes his hands by his side, trying to relax. Ortiz takes his eyes off the ball for a moment - Cook sees the opportunity and cracks him with a massive hook! Ortiz bends double and collapses on top of himself - he's out! The crowd are going absolutely nuts! Wow, what a knockout!
