Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Javier Esposito (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lefteris Papaioanou (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Javier Esposito! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lefteris Papaioanou! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Papaioanou misses with a right hand and Esposito counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Esposito showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Esposito has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Papaioanou avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Papaioanou is trying to control the position but Esposito postures up. Esposito working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Esposito accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Esposito is stalling in the full guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Lefteris Papaioanou seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Donk. Papaioanou catches Esposito right on the button with a cross. Esposito moves into range and clinches up with Papaioanou. Esposito lands a nice uppercut. Esposito tries to stall but Papaioanou uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

My spies in LOD: Better Alternative inform me that Papaioanou has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Esposito wants to sweep but no luck. Papaioanou's corner is telling him to maintain position. Papaioanou drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Esposito manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Papaioanou has Esposito in his guard.

Esposito tries to move into full mount but can't pass Papaioanou's legs. Papaioanou can't do much from the bottom here. Esposito trying to control the action but Papaioanou is working from the bottom. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Papaioanou fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Esposito throws a body kick that misses. A countering left hand to the body from Papaioanou misses. Papaioanou looks to score with a jab to the body but Esposito is just out of range. Papaioanou lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Esposito at a distance.
Papaioanou fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Esposito manages to avoid it. Papaioanou throws a solid leg kick but Esposito takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Papaioanou. Esposito appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Esposito cracks Papaioanou with a good jab. Papaioanou throws a left and a right that both miss

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Esposito not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Papaioanou is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Javier Esposito. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Esposito, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
