Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rupeni Veitayaki! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Manny Ramirez! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Veitayaki waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Ramirez. Ramirez looks to land a body kick but Veitayaki moved away. Sloppy strikes from Ramirez. Those never looked like landing. Veitayaki is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ramirez. Veitayaki closes the distance and clinches. Ramirez is trying to force a seperation but Veitayaki has the dominant position. Veitayaki escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ramirez gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Ramirez is looking to control Veitayaki's arms but Veitayaki gets an underhook and turns him. Now Ramirez has his back to the ropes. Veitayaki breaks from the clinch.
Veitayaki lands with a nice combination. Ramirez backs away looking to recover. Veitayaki misses the shot to the body. Ramirez throws a combination that misses and Veitayaki counters with a series of strikes. Ramirez will be more careful next time no doubt. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ramirez throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Veitayaki counters with a straight right hand. Manny Ramirez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Veitayaki throws a lazy right hand but Ramirez sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Ramirez throws a sloppy head kick and Veitayaki moves out of range easily. Ramirez stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Veitayaki. Veitayaki steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Ramirez.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ramirez misses with a body punch
and Veitayaki counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Ramirez closes the distance and clinches. Veitayaki breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Veitayaki looks to score with a jab to the body but Ramirez is just out of range. Ramirez has closed the distance and engaged Veitayaki in a clinch.
Ramirez is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. A battle for position here, against the ropes. Ramirez tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Veitayaki's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Veitayaki throws the left hand but Ramirez avoids the punch easily. Rupeni Veitayaki is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Ramirez is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Veitayaki. Ramirez moves into the clinch. Veitayaki lands on the inside with an uppercut. A nice left hand lands by Veitayaki.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! A right handed body shot lands from Veitayaki.
Ramirez wants to get back to striking at distance but Veitayaki won't allow it.
Veitayaki lands a hook to the side of the head. Veitayaki lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Ramirez backwards. Veitayaki effectively controlling the action here. Ramirez is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the ropes. Veitayaki scores with a shoulder strike. Veitayaki tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Ramirez avoids it. I was talking to Veitayaki's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Ramirez trying to control the position but instead, Veitayaki has worked for underhooks and has pushed Ramirez into the ropes. Veitayaki escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Veitayaki breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rupeni Veitayaki dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Ramirez rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Veitayaki moves out of range and avoids them all easily. A punch combination from Ramirez misses. Veitayaki misses with a jab, cross combination.
Ramirez gets in close and instigates a clinch. Veitayaki lands a nice shot to the body. Ramirez tries to break free but Veitayaki pushes him back against the ropes. Veitayaki missing with knees to the body.
Veitayaki lands a hook that snaps the head of Ramirez backwards. Ramirez makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Veitayaki goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Veitayaki breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Veitayaki misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ramirez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes. Veitayaki lands a left hand that snaps the head of Ramirez backwards. Ramirez is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Ramirez tries a body shot but Veitayaki blocks it.

Veitayaki closes the distance and scores with a big combo that sends Ramirez crashing to the mat! Ramirez uses the ropes to get back to his feet and beat the count. The referee looks concerned but he's going to allow it to continue!
Ramirez is rocked!
It looks like Manny Ramirez has been cut. Veitayaki swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ramirez is still on wobbly legs! Can Veitayaki finish him? Veitayaki ducks down and throws a big overhand right - it lands flush on the jaw, knocking Ramirez out cold! The fight is over!
