Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Douglas Marvin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and DJ Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Douglas Marvin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, DJ Smith!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marvin shoots in and gets a takedown into Smith's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Marvin seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Smith controls Marvin momentarily but Marvin frees himself.
Smith is pulling down on Marvin's head. It's preventing any offense from Marvin, at least for the moment.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Marvin throws a big elbow that misses.
Marvin trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Marvin is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Marvin shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Marvin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Marvin thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Smith is trying to control Marvin's posture but Marvin avoids it.
Marvin tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Smith is trying to control the action in half guard but Marvin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Marvin is defending against the submission attempts here by Smith.
Marvin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Smith is working away from the top position though.
Smith wants to stand up but Marvin manages to regain full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Marvin bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Smith's guard.

Marvin is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Smith is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Marvin bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Smith's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Marvin lands a nice shot to the body.
Marvin smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Marvin!
Marvin tries to clinch but Smith moves out of range.

Marvin moves into range and clinches up with Smith.
A nice left hand lands by Marvin.
Smith tries to score a body lock takedown but Marvin shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Smith gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Marvin.
Marvin avoiding damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marvin effectively controlling the action here.
Smith tries to work over Marvin's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Marvin is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Smith can do to turn this around?

A nice left hand lands by Marvin.
Marvin is stalling here.

Marvin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Good standup being displayed there by Marvin as he connects with a hook.
Marvin tries to close the distance and clinch but Smith swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Marvin throws a body shot but no joy.
Smith tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Marvin as he jumps to the side.

Marvin closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Smith's guard.
Smith has his hands on Marvin's head, controlling the position.
Marvin lands a couple of digs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Marvin controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Marvin passes Smith's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Marvin wants to control but Smith is keeping him busy.
Smith tries to get to full guard but Marvin has control of the leg.
Marvin looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Smith controlling the position for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Marvin lands strikes from half guard.
Marvin prevents Smith from improving his position.
Smith is breathing heavily.
Marvin is taking a breather. Smith says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Marvin has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Marvin lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Marvin tries to pass to full mount but Smith defends it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Smith pushes Marvin off looking to stand but Marvin dives back in and keeps control.
Marvin perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Marvin looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Marvin rushes Smith and presses him up against the cage.
Smith goes for a takedown attempt but Marvin pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Douglas Marvin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of DJ Smith.
Marvin scores with a punch to the head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Marvin clinches with his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Douglas Marvin dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Marvin feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Marvin sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Smith doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Marvin paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Smith - great work!
