Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dmitri Dmitrov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Matt Griffin! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, David Schapiro and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dmitrov has Griffin up against the cage in a clinch.
Griffin utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body. Griffin is fighting off a takedown attempt but Dmitrov is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Griffin to the mat. Griffin regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Griffin has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Dmitrov has passed into side control.
Dmitrov looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. You can see the frustration on Griffin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dmitrov wants to stand but Griffin has his arm trapped.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dmitrov in side control, throwing shots but Griffin defends. Griffin is looking for a sweep. Dmitrov has control of an arm but Griffin manages to advance to Dmitrov's back! Griffin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dmitrov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Griffin looking to hold on to the position here but Dmitrov rolls and ends up regaining guard.
Griffin stops Dmitrov from standing up. Dmitrov is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Griffin rolls with it to try and escape but Dmitrov cranks on the arm and Griffin is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
