Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Royce Gracie (ranked 2542 p4p, 383 weight class) and Tupe Fiso (ranked 3239 p4p, 470 weight class). Gracie comes into the arena with Jiu Jitsu by Smoke Serpent blaring out of the sound system. Fiso has chosen We Won't Back Down as his entrance music. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Royce Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tupe Fiso!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Matheus Silva and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie shoots in and drives through. Fiso sprawls well.
Fiso let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
We've been hearing reports that Gracie has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Fiso lands with a nice body punch.
Fiso fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Gracie on the side of the head.
Fiso scores with a jab. Gracie acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Fiso has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown but Fiso shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
A looping hook to the body misses from Fiso. Gracie does a little dance to reset his feet.
Fiso lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Gracie moves forwards but Fiso connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown but Fiso shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Royce Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gracie closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Fiso's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gracie is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Fiso avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Fiso can't keep his opponent in guard - Gracie advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gracie connects with a nice short shot to Fiso's temple.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gracie is controlling the pace.
Gracie is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Fiso defends it well.
Fiso wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy.
Gracie throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Gracie is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gracie wants to work for an arm triangle but Fiso is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gracie is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Fiso doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gracie.
Gracie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Gracie uses his free foot to push down on Fiso's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Fiso.

Gracie goes for an armbar but Fiso turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Fiso.
Gracie had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Fiso defends it easily.
Fiso slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gracie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fiso gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Royce Gracie will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Fiso misses with a right hand
and Gracie counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Gracie.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
