Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lao Shin (ranked 18 p4p, 3 weight class) and Bobby Shamrock (ranked 42 p4p, 7 weight class). Shin comes to the cage accompanied by Shaolin Chamber of Death. Bobby Shamrock told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
27 - 9 - 1, fighting out of London, Lao Shin! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
35 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bobby Shamrock! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shin moves out of range of the strikes. Shamrock throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Shin sees it coming and avoids it easily. Shin will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Shamrock! But no joy. Lao Shin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Shamrock changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Shin throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Shin wants to land a leg kick but Shamrock is out of range. Shamrock looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shin swings for the body but Shamrock moves out of range.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Shamrock! But no joy. A shot to the body from Shin misses and Shamrock counters by clinching up.

Shin darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Shin is looking to wear down Shamrock with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. A shot to the body from Shin misses and Shamrock counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Good shot there by Shin. Shamrock takes one on the chin but seems OK.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shamrock steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Shin. That one must have hurt. Shin scores with a jab to the head.

It seemed like Shamrock was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Shin avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Shin swings widly with a right hand

Shamrock throws a shot from downtown. Shin moves away and avoids it. Shin uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Shamrock has time to react. Shin cracks Shamrock with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Shin throws a quick inside leg kick. Shin scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Shin connects with a looping right hand.

Luckily it didn't land flush. A right-left combo lands from Shamrock. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Shin goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Shamrock! But no joy. Shin moves away from the strike by Shamrock. Lao Shin clearly takes that round. The cut man is working on Bobby Shamrock's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Shin lands with a right hand. Shin blocks a jab. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shamrock throws a looping overhand right but Shin ducks down to avoid it.
