Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dustin Assad (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oleg Vlasov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dustin Assad could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Oleg Vlasov's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dustin Assad!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Oleg Vlasov!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Micheangelo Fripello and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Assad checks a leg kick.
Assad shoots in and drives through. Vlasov sprawls well.
Vlasov misses with a jab, cross combination.
Vlasov misses with a head kick.
Assad throws a leg kick

and Vlasov counters with a shoot takedown. Assad fights it but they end up in guard.
Assad wants to sweep here but Vlasov controlling him for the moment.

Assad working for a triangle but Vlasov defends it easily.

Vlasov decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Assad, up you get!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vlasov has closed the distance and engaged Assad in a clinch.
Assad misses with a hook from the clinch.

Vlasov pulls guard.
Assad trying to control the position from guard on top but Vlasov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Assad is looking to work some ground and pound but Vlasov has wrist control.

Vlasov is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Assad defends well.
Vlasov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Assad. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Assad drops back, looking for a kneebar! Vlasov looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Vlasov looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Vlasov!

Assad looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Vlasov working away.
Assad is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Vlasov is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Assad is looking for a sweep.
Assad struggling a bit here.
Assad is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Vlasov decides to stand back up.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Assad.
Sloppy strikes from Assad. Those never looked like landing.
And Vlasov tries to counter it with a takedown but Assad pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Vlasov closes the distance and pushes Assad back into the cage.
Assad tries to circle away but Vlasov has him pinned against the cage.
Assad is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dustin Assad. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Vlasov manages to break the clinch.

Vlasov gets a takedown into half guard.
Assad has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Vlasov is working away from the top position though.

Vlasov stands up and beckons Assad to join him on the feet.
Oleg Vlasov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Vlasov darts in and clinches Assad up against the cage.
Assad jumps guard but Vlasov turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Vlasov breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Assad shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Vlasov pinned against the cage. Vlasov gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Oleg Vlasov dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Assad tries to close the distance and clinch but Vlasov swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Assad enables Vlasov to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Assad manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Vlasov working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Assad is working an open guard so Vlasov takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Vlasov throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Assad shoots in for a takedown but Vlasov shows good takedown defense.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vlasov lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Assad backs up against the cage.


It looks like Dustin Assad has been cut.
Assad fails with a takedown attempt.

Vlasov moves into the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Vlasov takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
A short body shot lands from Vlasov as the two fighters clinch.

Vlasov manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Vlasov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Assad doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Assad manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Vlasov is looking for a triangle but Assad pushes his legs off easily.
Assad working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Assad tries to free his leg and advance position but Vlasov is retaining full guard.
Vlasov is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Vlasov is pulling down on Assad's head. It's preventing any offense from Assad, at least for the moment.

Assad chips away with some ground and pound.
Assad throwing strikes from guard but Vlasov blocks nicely.
Vlasov is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Assad won't allow Vlasov to get back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Vlasov changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Assad looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Vlasov works to advance to full mount. Assad defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Assad tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Assad is working hard here to advance position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Vlasov goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Assad is on top in guard.
Vlasov is breathing heavily.
Vlasov working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Assad.
Assad wants to control from the top but Vlasov keeps moving.
Assad throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Vlasov pushes Assad off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Vlasov shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Vlasov was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Oleg Vlasov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Vlasov is sitting in close to Assad's body. Assad has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Vlasov is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Vlasov is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Assad.
