Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dean Aerts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Cole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dean Aerts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Joe Cole!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cole misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Aerts looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Cole rushes Aerts and presses him up against the cage.

Cole works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Aerts utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aerts keeping moving, preventing Cole from controlling successfully.
Aerts knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cole on the ground.
Cole with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Cole missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Cole wants to control from the top but Aerts keeps moving.

Cole is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Cole is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Cole lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Cole wants to control from the top but Aerts keeps moving.
Cole postures up in Aerts's guard and throws a big left but Aerts blocks it.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cole accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Cole with a flurry of punches that miss.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cole's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Aerts utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Cole controls from within his opponent's guard.
Cole stands up over Aerts, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Cole postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Cole trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Cole decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Cole goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Cole takes the fight into the clinch.
Aerts gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Cole.
Cole is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Cole wants to break free but Aerts has control.

Cole jumps guard and drags Aerts to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Cole doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cole is on top in guard.
Cole lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Cole is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Cole distracts Aerts with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Cole with a flurry of punches that miss.
Cole pushing down on Aerts's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Cole controlling the pace.
Let's hope that Cole has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Cole lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Cole looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Aerts with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Cole shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Cole cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Cole with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Aerts tries to hold on but Cole pushes him away.
Cole has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Aerts's face.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cole looking to control and managing it successfully.
Cole lands a nice shot to the head.
Aerts is in a horrible position here. Cole smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Cole lands a big shot there that rocks Aerts but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Cole fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The referee warns Aerts that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Cole landing strikes from the mount and Aerts is in trouble!
Cole postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Aerts looks a forlorn figure.
Aerts is bucking up trying to escape but Cole cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Cole has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Cole postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Aerts looks a forlorn figure.

Cole has control of Aerts's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Aerts regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Cole tries to control but Aerts wriggling away.
Aerts's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

BOOM! Cole connects with a massive shot to the dome!

This has been an exciting period of action!
Cole connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The referee warns Aerts that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Cole showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Cole lands a high kick!

Cole closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Cole throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Ground and pound from Cole.
Cole working Aerts over with strikes.
Cole thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Aerts's head.
Cole drops an elbow to the side of Aerts's head.
Aerts is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Cole scores with a couple of nice shots.
Cole working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Cole in particular looking to stall.
Aerts is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Cole scores with a couple of nice shots.

Cole wants to take a breather but Aerts is having none of it.

Cole looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Aerts is looking to escape.

Aerts is not content to let Cole control the position.
Cole lands strikes from half guard.
Cole content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Aerts tries to kick Cole off but Cole keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Aerts is defending against the submission attempts here by Cole.

Cole has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Aerts defend it? Cole steps over the head and cranks it - Aerts is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Cole!
