PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jesus Christ (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ben Jones was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jesus Christ!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ben Jones!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones tries to clinch there but Christ circles away.

Jones moves into the clinch.
Jones prevents a takedown attempt there.
Jones misses with a knee to the head.
The is referee keeping an eye on Jones - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Jones connects with a nasty looking knee right to Christ's face.

Jones pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Christ avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Christ is looking to land body kicks.
Ben Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A slow jab from Christ misses its intended target.
Horrible takedown by Jones or perhaps it was just good defense by Christ which made him look bad.
Christ shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jones as he jumps to the side.
Jones circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jones misses with a hook. Christ ducked under it nicely.

and Jones counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Christ's guard now.
Jones must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

It looks like Jesus Christ has been cut.
Come on Jones - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Jones drops Christ with a nice combination! Jones dives into Christ's guard, looking to finish!


Christ is rocked!
Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Jones stands and steps away. Christ gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Jones scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Jones takes the fight into the clinch.
Christ takes a knee right on the jaw!
Christ has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jones avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Jones breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Jones looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Christ is looking for a sweep. Jones is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Jones stalling.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Christ is trying to get back to full guard.
Jones trying to control the pace.
Jones tries to stand and escape but Christ is controlling the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Christ counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Christ is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Jones sees it coming and defends easily.
Christ drops an elbow to the side of Jones's head.
Jones tries to get to full guard but Christ has control of the leg.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jones regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Christ.

Christ trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.
Christ throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Christ passes Jones's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Christ is keen to just control but Jones is a slippery customer.
Jones controlling the position for now.
Christ thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Jones to regain full guard.
Christ wanted to stand there but Jones had control of the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jones throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Christ stops Jones from standing up.
Jones utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Christ is looking to work some ground and pound but Jones has wrist control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Jones clinches up with Christ and pushes him back against the cage.
Christ wants a takedown.

Christ has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Christ working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jones manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Nice takedown defense from Jones. No joy for Christ on that attempt.

Ben Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Jones throws a head kick but Christ moves out of range.
Christ lunges at Jones with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Jones's hand.
Jones has his takedown stuffed

and Christ counters with a single leg into guard. Jones didn't expect that.

Christ distracts Jones with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Christ stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jones swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Christ. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Jones pulls Christ in close to prevent any damage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Christ drops back, looking for a kneebar! Jones looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Jones looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Jones!
Jones lands some shots froms side control.

Jones stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Jones sizes up Christ with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Jones will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Jones misses with a double jab.
Jones swinging wilding here.

Jones is looking to clinch.
Jones throws a series of punches but Christ avoids them all with ease.
Jesus Christ is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Jones tries to bum rush Christ with a series of wild strikes but Christ uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Jones tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Christ swivels and escapes.

Christ drives through with a takedown into guard.
Christ is looking to work some ground and pound but Jones has wrist control.

Christ drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Jones dives on top into guard.
Christ punching from the bottom - just letting Jones know he's still in a fight.

Christ working for submissions but it's allowed Jones to get to half guard.
Well, if Jones is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Jones scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Christ looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Christ keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Christ is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Jones pulls his head out easily.

Jones stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Christ to get to his feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Jones clinches up with Christ and pushes him back against the cage.
Christ is trying to break free.
Christ has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jones avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Jones stalls.
Jones landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Jones is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Christ wants to break free but Jones has control.
Jones landing knees to the body.
Christ jumps guard but Jones stands there with Christ around his waist. Christ gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Jesus Christ has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ben Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jesus Christ.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
