PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight kickboxing rules bout between Tun Min Naing (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thai Spong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Min Naing comes to the ring accompanied by Myanmar Lethwei Songs. Thai Spong told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Min Naing throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Spong counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Min Naing moves in looking to clinch but Spong pushes him off.
Spong lands a jab to the head.
Spong dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Min Naing gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Spong lands with a short shot to the head.
Min Naing works on Spong's body with a couple of short punches.
Min Naing struggles to land a body shot inside as Spong controls his hands.
Min Naing misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Nice body punch from Min Naing.
Min Naing is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the ropes.
Min Naing looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Min Naing pushes off an throws an elbow but Spong leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the ropes.

Spong looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Min Naing wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Spong has him pressed against the ropes.
Spong lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Min Naing backwards.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Min Naing blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Min Naing lands a left hand that snaps the head of Spong backwards.

Spong tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Min Naing's elbow.

Min Naing is trying to maintain a safe position but Spong gets an underhook and turns Min Naing into the ropes.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Min Naing tries to circle away but Spong has him pinned against the ropes.

Spong breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Spong works the jab nicely.
Spong connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Spong swats away the attempt to clinch by Min Naing.
Min Naing sets himself, and Spong steps forward looking for the clinch! Min Naing avoids it this time.

Min Naing looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Spong tries to keep at a distance but Min Naing has taken the fight into the clinch.

Spong manages to break the clinch.
Spong bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Spong's corner calls for a 1-2. Spong obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Min Naing has taken the fight to the clinch.
Min Naing doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Spong pushes Min Naing back against the ropes and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Spong lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
With the fighters up against the ropes, Min Naing throws an elbow but misses.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Spong scores with a shot to the side of Min Naing's head.
Min Naing could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Min Naing breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Min Naing drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

It looks like Tun Min Naing has been cut.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Spong scores a knockdown with a big right hand! Min Naing beats the count and gets back to his feet. The referee asks him to walk forwards and it appears he is OK so we'll continue the bout.
Spong throws a shot to the body.
Spong changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Having scored a knockdown, Thai Spong should take round 1, putting pressure on his opponene back strong in round 2.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Min Naing is pinned up against the ropes taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Spong comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Spong throws out a counter right but Min Naing avoids it with no problem.
Min Naing drops his hands momentarily and Spong takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Min Naing tries to clinch there but Spong circles away.
Min Naing takes one to the chin there.
Spong closes the distance and catches Min Naing with a lead hook that drops him to the canvas! Min Naing is clearly dazed and struggling here! 3,4,5,6,7 and Min Naing is up to his feet but the referee has called it off! Min Naing is still far too wobbly and he's not going to allow the fight to continue! Spong takes it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). Thai Spong!
A less than humble Thai Spong misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
