Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Manny Laynier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Mitchell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jack Mitchell!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Santiago Holmes and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Laynier clinches with his opponent.
Mitchell fails to pull guard.
Laynier's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Mitchell manages to pull guard.
Laynier looking to sit in guard and control but Mitchell gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mitchell looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Laynier avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Mitchell is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Laynier has Mitchell pulled in close to control his posture.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mitchell is pushing down on Laynier's leg trying to pass to half guard. Laynier is fighting to maintain full guard but Mitchell has managed to sneak the leg through.

Mitchell decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Laynier shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mitchell as he avoids it easily.
Laynier throws a right and a left that both miss.
Mitchell tries to counter by closing the distance.
Laynier tries a head kick but it misses.
Mitchell throws out a counter right but Laynier avoids it with no problem.
Laynier wants to clinch.
Laynier tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mitchell swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Mitchell tries to pull guard but Laynier holds him up against the cage and eventually Mitchell drops back down to his feet.

Mitchell drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Laynier keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Mitchell's efforts to push away.
Mitchell takes a shot to the head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mitchell is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Mitchell jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Laynier walks away with a smile on his face. Mitchell gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

That was a close round but I would say that Manny Laynier will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Laynier tries for a takedown but Mitchell sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mitchell unleashes a big counter combination but Laynier bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Mitchell dives in and grabs Laynier's left leg, looking for a takedown. Laynier pushes down on Mitchell's head and hops out.
Laynier tries to close the distance and clinch but Mitchell swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Despite the aggression on Mitchell's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Laynier throws a body punch but Mitchell moves out of range.

Laynier wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Mitchell shoots for a double leg takedown but Laynier sprawls well. He's pushed Mitchell's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Laynier throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Mitchell feints the counter takedown.
Laynier tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mitchell swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Mitchell doesn't manage to clinch there - Laynier circles away.
Laynier tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mitchell swivels and escapes.

Laynier shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mitchell but Mitchell pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mitchell dives in and grabs Laynier's left leg, looking for a takedown. Laynier pushes down on Mitchell's head and hops out.

Laynier got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mitchell has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Laynier has managed to get both his arms back between Mitchell's legs - danger averted.

The fight stays on the outside here - Laynier looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Laynier doesn't manage to clinch there - Mitchell circles away.
Mitchell fails to land the takedown.
Horrible takedown attempt by Laynier or perhaps it was just good defense by Mitchell, which made it look bad.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Manny Laynier dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

It looked like Laynier was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Laynier feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mitchell is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Mitchell drags the fight down to the ground.
Mitchell pulls Laynier in close to his closed guard and prevents Laynier from doing any damage or advancing position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mitchell seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Manny Laynier.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Laynier, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
