Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Siete Finess! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Charles Swanson! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Finess stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Finess wants it to stay on the feet. Swanson fails to land the takedown. Finess has managed to clinch.
Swanson tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Finess displaying some good clinch control by pressing Swanson up against the cage. Finess controlling the action here for a moment.
Finess ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Finess no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Swanson wants to stand but Finess has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Finess wants to stand but Swanson is controlling the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Swanson preventing the sweep. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Swanson is fighting to break Finess's control of his arms but Finess is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Finess is looking for a triangle but Swanson pushes his legs off easily.
Swanson postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Finess is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Swanson, into his guard. Finess content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Finess wants to control from the top but Swanson keeps moving. Swanson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Finess is aware though and is defending well. Finess drops back, looking for a kneebar! Swanson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Swanson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Swanson! Finess struggling a bit here. Finess is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Finess moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Finess throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Swanson won't allow Finess to sweep him here. Swanson controls from within his opponent's guard. Finess working for submissions but it's allowed Swanson to get to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Swanson wants to stand but Finess has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Finess is looking for a sweep. Swanson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Finess looking for submissions off his back. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Finess is trying to get back to full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Siete Finess dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Finess gets a takedown into half guard. Finess is trying to work for a kimura but Swanson is defending well.
Finess throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Swanson to regain full guard. Finess throws a sloppy strike and Swanson has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Finess is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Swanson!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Charles Swanson! In his post fight interview, Charles Swanson started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
