Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ricky Hughes!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steven Kennedy!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hughes drops Kennedy with a right and a left! Hughes comes rushing in but Kennedy regains his composure and manages to keep Hughes in guard.


It looks like Steven Kennedy has been cut.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kennedy bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hughes's guard.


Kennedy drops back looking for a leg! Hughes is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hughes manages to kick Kennedy off! Kennedy jumps back into Hughes's guard.

My spies in Crapollas Gym inform me that Kennedy has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Hughes tries to roll over but Kennedy keeps him under control.

Kennedy has control of Hughes's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Hughes regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

It looks like Ricky Hughes has been cut.

Hughes lands a leg kick that knocks Kennedy off balance momentarily.
Kennedy has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Hughes dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Hughes ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Kennedy misses with a leg kick.
Hughes walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Hughes tries to keep at a distance but Kennedy has taken the fight into the clinch.
Oh Hughes is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Kennedy jumps guard and drags Hughes to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Hughes seems to have got his legs back now.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hughes has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kennedy is proving hard to escape from.

Kennedy escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hughes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hughes has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Hughes controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Kennedy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hughes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hughes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hughes reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Hughes taps out! Nice BJJ there by Kennedy!

Steven Kennedy decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
