Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo Nigouera! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jozef Beast! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Fedor Mirinova and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nigouera shoots in and gets a takedown into Beast's guard. Nigouera throwing strikes but missing. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Nigouera chips away with some ground and pound. Beast controls Nigouera momentarily but Nigouera frees himself. Nigouera throws a big elbow that misses. Beast looking for a sweep. Not yet Beast, not yet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nigouera with a nice head shot there. Beast has his foot on Nigouera's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nigouera works his way back into a safe position though. Beast has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad MMA St Petersburg. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Nigouera has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Nigouera content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Nigouera tries to stand but Beast is controlling from the bottom. Nigouera wants to control from the top but Beast keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nigouera working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Beast's head. Beast controls Nigouera momentarily but Nigouera frees himself. Beast working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nigouera doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nigouera manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Beast working a defensive guard here.
Beast tries to land a sweep but no joy. Nigouera makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Nigouera decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Beast, up you get!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nigouera dives in and scores a takedown into Beast's guard. Beast looking for a triangle here. Nigouera is fighting it but it looks tight! Beast pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Nigouera is tapping out - this one is all over!
