Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Garret Morse! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Leroy Wilkins! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wilkins throws a head kick that misses. Wilkins moves into the clinch. Morse avoids a wild elbow strike from Wilkins. Wilkins is trying to maintain a safe position but Morse gets an underhook and turns Wilkins into the cage. Wilkins is looking to control Morse's arms but Morse gets an underhook and turns him. Now Wilkins has his back to the cage. Morse content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Wilkins is trying to force a seperation but Morse has the dominant position. Morse wants a takedown.
Wilkins prevents a takedown attempt there.
Morse really is a fat lump. Wilkins trying to land knees to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Morse drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Garret Morse. That's going to take a lot out of him. Morse gets control of Wilkins's arms and successfully pulls guard. Morse will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Morse looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Morse has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Morse has a closed guard, preventing Wilkins from standing up. Morse wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Wilkins throws a strike but Morse rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Morse postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Morse lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Morse scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Morse has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Morse postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Wilkins is looking to stand up but Morse isn't so interested in that idea. Morse is working Wilkins over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Morse with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Wilkins trying to control the position.
Morse missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Morse gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Morse throws a right and a left that both miss. Wilkins clinches with his opponent.
Wilkins pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Wilkins ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Wilkins lands a jab-cross combination.
It looks like Garret Morse has been cut.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Morse misses with a body shot.
Wilkins tests Morse's chin there with a solid looking shot. A jab from Wilkins finds it's way through Morse's defenses.
Morse is rocked! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Wilkins lands with a right and another and another! Morse is in big trouble! Wilkins lands again and this time it's lights out for Morse! A quality knockout there for Wilkins.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Leroy Wilkins! After the fight, Leroy Wilkins was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
