Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Ngannou (ranked 4192 p4p, 470 weight class) and Anthony Griffith (ranked 6688 p4p, 658 weight class). Anthony Griffith will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frankie Ngannou!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Anthony Griffith!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Jorge Garcia and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ngannou shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Griffith napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Ngannou moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Griffith is looking for a sweep.
Ngannou taking a breather here.
Griffith is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ngannou seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Griffith for as long as he can get away with.
Griffith is looking for a sweep.
Ngannou in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Griffith is trying to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ngannou just content to control the position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Griffith lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Griffith leaves Ngannou with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ngannou avoids the body shot from Griffith.
Griffith moves out of range as Ngannou strikes.
Griffith ducks under a wild hook from Ngannou.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Griffith ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ngannou moves away.
Ngannou looks to land a combination. Griffith sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.


It looks like Anthony Griffith has been cut.
Ngannou misses with a right hand
enabling Griffith to counter with a crisp jab.
Ngannou ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Griffith moves away.
A looping hook to the body misses from Ngannou. Griffith does a little dance to reset his feet.
Griffith misses with a body shot.
Ngannou misses with a body punch
and Griffith counters with a nice body shot.
A shot to the liver by Ngannou. Beautiful body shot.
A punch combination from Griffith misses.
Ngannou definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Griffith defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Ngannou.
Ngannou fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Griffith! But no joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frankie Ngannou. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ngannou throws a body punch but Griffith moves out of range.
Griffith is looking for the big counter here.
Ngannou keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Ngannou takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
No joy there for Griffith, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Griffith scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Griffith moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Griffith lands a left and a right that send Ngannou crashing to the mat, dazed. Griffith thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Ngannou is rocked!
Ngannou shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
letting Griffith counter with a right hand.
Oh Ngannou is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Griffith fires a straight punch through the middle that cracks Ngannou square on the jaw! Damn, Ngannou is out cold on his feet and topples face first to the canvas! Wow, I haven't seen a knockout that brutal in a long time!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Anthony Griffith!
After the fight, Anthony Griffith was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
