PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Garrick Head (ranked 2702 p4p, 273 weight class) and Baeddan MacAuliffe (ranked 1852 p4p, 197 weight class). MacAuliffe comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Notorious by Duran Duran kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Garrick Head!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Baeddan MacAuliffe!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Edson Gomes and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Head looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Baeddan MacAuliffe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Head clobbers MacAuliffe with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Head swings away with a leg kick that misses.
MacAuliffe just misses with a punch to the body.

MacAuliffe shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. MacAuliffe showed some decent athleticism there.
MacAuliffe is thwarting Head's attempts to control the position.
Head is staying active underneath MacAuliffe, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
MacAuliffe is pressing down on Head's thigh, looking to free his foot. Head is holding on for now.
Head might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

MacAuliffe is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Head sees it coming and defends easily.
Head is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of MacAuliffe's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take MacAuliffe's back!

Head is trying to stick to MacAuliffe's back but MacAuliffe is turning into Head. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Head's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by MacAuliffe.

Head looking for a guillotine here but MacAuliffe defends easily.
Head pulls MacAuliffe in to control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
MacAuliffe is pushing down on Head's leg trying to pass to half guard. Head is fighting to maintain full guard but MacAuliffe has managed to sneak the leg through.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Baeddan MacAuliffe will probably get the nod.

Some wild striking there from MacAuliffe.
MacAuliffe misses with a looping right.
Head seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Head throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent MacAuliffe stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

MacAuliffe closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

MacAuliffe is working Head over with some ground and pound from side control.

Head slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

MacAuliffe is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Head wants to stand but MacAuliffe is controlling his posture from full guard.
Head slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
MacAuliffe throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

MacAuliffe had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Head defends it easily.
MacAuliffe trying to keep a closed guard but Head is proving a slippery customer.
Head slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Head thumps MacAuliffe with a low kick.

Head stuffs the takedown.
It looked like Head wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Sloppy strikes from MacAuliffe. Those never looked like landing.
Head swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Head walks forward, straight into a front kick from MacAuliffe.
Head throws a series of punches but MacAuliffe moves out of range.
MacAuliffe throws a left and a right that both miss
enabling Head to counter with a crisp jab.
MacAuliffe shoots in looking for a takedown but Head manages to keep the fight standing, pushing MacAuliffe's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Baeddan MacAuliffe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
MacAuliffe looks to land a combination. Head sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
MacAuliffe dives in for a single leg takedown but Head sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Garrick Head has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Baeddan MacAuliffe.
MacAuliffe is breathing heavily.
MacAuliffe misses with a lunging right hand
and Head counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
MacAuliffe looks to land a combination but Head avoids it well.
Garrick Head is winning the standup battle so far.
MacAuliffe drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
MacAuliffe walks into a straight right, dropping him to the canvas! Head swarms him and finishes the fight with a hail of punches! What a brutal finish!
