Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alexander Gustafson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gustav Hangerman! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Marco Blurström and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gustafson throws a series of punches but Hangerman avoids them all with ease. Hangerman tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Gustafson fails to land the takedown. Gustafson looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Gustafson throws a series of punches but Hangerman avoids them all with ease. Gustafson throws a body punch but Hangerman moves out of range. Hangerman throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Hangerman wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Gustafson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hangerman is clearly looking to counter with head kicks. Hangerman throws a combination that misses and Gustafson counters with a nice double leg into guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gustafson connects with a couple of short punches. Hangerman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gustafson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Hangerman is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Gustafson wants to control from the top but Hangerman keeps moving. Gustafson controlling from the top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gustafson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Gustafson working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Hangerman is trying to keep Gustafson in close.
Gustafson chips away with some ground and pound. Gustafson passes into half guard. Gustafson controlling the action here. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Gustafson lands a nice short elbow.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gustafson frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Hangerman is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Gustafson looking to finish Hangerman with some ground and pound. This is bad for Hangerman! Gustafson controlling his opponent. Hangerman tries to get back to half guard but can't. Gustafson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Gustafson in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
