Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Cortez Wiggins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chavez Mendez! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Igor Prikhodko and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mendez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Wiggins looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Wiggins isn't going anywhere. Mendez scores with a couple of short elbows. This fight is sponsored by Chainsaw 7. More blood and guts and stuff like that, in cinemas everywhere now! Wiggins is trying to control Mendez's posture but Mendez avoids it. Mendez decides to stand back up. Mendez steps back and let's Wiggins get back to his feet. Mendez dives in and scores a takedown into Wiggins's guard. Mendez wants to stand but Wiggins is controlling his posture from full guard. Wiggins wants to stand up but Mendez is controlling him. Wiggins keeping moving, preventing Mendez from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wiggins is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Mendez cracks Wiggins with a solid left hand. Wiggins pulls Mendez in to control the position. Wiggins striking off his back. Wiggins lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Mendez wants to get back to his feet but Wiggins is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Mendez pulls Wiggins in close to his closed guard and prevents Wiggins from doing any damage or advancing position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wiggins lands a couple of digs. Mendez trying to control the position.
Mendez controlling the position. Wiggins got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mendez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wiggins has managed to get both his arms back between Mendez's legs - danger averted. Mendez looks winded! Wiggins landing some decent shots from guard. Wiggins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Mendez lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wiggins is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Wiggins lands strikes from half guard. Mendez wants to get back to full guard. Wiggins is thwarting Mendez's attempts to control the position. Wiggins prevents Mendez from improving his position. Mendez wants to control but Wiggins is keeping busy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wiggins is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Wiggins is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Mendez tries to get to full guard but Wiggins has control of the leg. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Mendez has one foot on Wiggins's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Mendez shoots in and bounces Wiggins off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Chavez Mendez will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action!
Mendez feints and as Wiggins raises his hands in defense, Mendez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Wiggins wants to sweep but no luck. Wiggins is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Mendez trying to control the position from guard on top but Wiggins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mendez stays in close to Wiggins's body and controls the position. Mendez wants to control from the top but Wiggins keeps moving. Wiggins will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Mendez is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mendez avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Wiggins is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Chavez Mendez has got the better of the ground game so far. Mendez working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Wiggins looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Mendez looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Mendez is looking to take a break and control but Wiggins is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wiggins keeping hold of Mendez's head, controlling as best he can. Mendez thows a huge punch but Wiggins dodges it nicely.
Mendez wants to stand up but Wiggins is controlling the position.

Wiggins is working an open guard so Mendez takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mendez feints and as Wiggins raises his hands in defense, Mendez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Wiggins pulls Mendez in to control the position. Wiggins's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Mendez wanted to stand there but Wiggins had control of the position. Wiggins pulls Mendez in to control the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wiggins wants to improve his position but instead Mendez has moved into half guard.
Wiggins holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mendez is keen to just control but Wiggins is a slippery customer. Wiggins controlling the position well. Mendez has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Mendez tries to pass the half guard into mount. Wiggins knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Wiggins is controlling Mendez's position as best he can from this difficult position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Mendez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chavez Mendez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!
Wiggins gets caught napping as Mendez dives in and scores a takedown. Wiggins manages to retain guard. Wiggins is adopting a defensive guard. Wiggins escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mendez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mendez wants to control from the top but Wiggins keeps moving. Wiggins seems keen to control Mendez's posture. Mendez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wiggins keeping moving, preventing Mendez from controlling successfully. Mendez wants to get up but he can't break Wiggins's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Wiggins has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mendez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Mendez wants to control from the top but Wiggins keeps moving. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Wiggins is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Mendez has closed the distance and engaged Wiggins in a clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Wiggins tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Mendez has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Wiggins uses from the top position. Wiggins working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Wiggins wants to stand but Mendez is controlling his posture from full guard. Wiggins has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Wiggins throws an elbow that misses. Mendez uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Wiggins's guard. Nice move by Mendez!
Wiggins has his foot on Mendez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mendez works his way back into a safe position though. Mendez being controlled here momentarily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wiggins looking for a sweep. Not yet Wiggins, not yet. Mendez wants to control from the top but Wiggins keeps moving. Wiggins lands a good elbow from the bottom. Wiggins managing to control the position. Wiggins escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mendez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Mendez advances to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Mendez is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Mendez gets to his feet. Wiggins looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Mendez closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mendez lands in his opponent's guard. Wiggins manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! With the fighters clinched against the cage, Wiggins creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Wiggins blocks the elbow strike.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Chavez Mendez. I've got Mendez winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
