Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul McDonald (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vladimir Smirnoff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Paul McDonald! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vladimir Smirnoff! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McDonald shoots in for a double leg but Smirnoff sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Smirnoff shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. McDonald manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Smirnoff throwing strikes from guard but McDonald blocks nicely. Smirnoff wanted to stand there but McDonald had control of the position. Smirnoff throws a big elbow that misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smirnoff throwing strikes from guard but McDonald blocks nicely. Smirnoff stands and steps away. McDonald gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smirnoff lands a big head kick that sends McDonald tumbling to the mat! Smirnoff takes a step backwards and waves McDonald back to his feet - he wants the finish!
It looks like Paul McDonald has been cut. Smirnoff forces McDonald back against the cage and clinches. Smirnoff pulls guard effortlessly. McDonald stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smirnoff swivels though and keeps the full guard. McDonald is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. McDonald is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Smirnoff keeping moving, preventing McDonald from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. McDonald passes into half guard. McDonald trying to pass the guard but Smirnoff defending well. McDonald is looking for a kimura here.
McDonald is looking to take a break and control but Smirnoff is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. McDonald missing with the ground and pound from half guard. McDonald is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McDonald is working for a submission of some sort.
McDonald is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Smirnoff has managed to free his arm - good work. McDonald is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Smirnoff sees it coming and defends easily. McDonald is looking to take a break and control but Smirnoff is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. McDonald looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McDonald seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Smirnoff is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Paul McDonald! Paul McDonald was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
